Dude. As Trump himself said out loud. Everything good about the economy is because of Trump and his policies. Everything bad is b/c of Biden. Check the 1:30 mark.

in reality, it would be hard, if not impossible, to expect that Trump would nationally accept that our current inflation is due to any of his policies. And, in fact, if any economist in the US can be believed, some of our inflation is due to our current policies.

I think you missed my point here. Is some of the Biden years bleeding over into Trump's? Absolutely. No question about it. The point of that was that Trump said the quiet part out loud... Namely that everything good was his and everything bad was Bidens.

I understand and I have agreed that results good or bad flow from one administration to the next, at least for the first year.

That's why I get a kick out of this back and forth about who is responsible for inflation from trump to Biden to trump. In fact, they both are responsible. Biden made some mistakes in policy and now Trump is making different mistakes in policy. So everyone is talking in degrees as a opposed to either who actually started or ended inflation.

Of course maybe neither are responsible, the new FED chair placed the blame on the FED.

Man oh man, I cannot wait to hear you tell this to all the trumpers on this board when they throw out the 9.1% inflation under Biden. I anxiously await you explaining this to them.

BTW, the new fed chair is mostly correct and I have been saying this since 2021. 80% of that inflation was from the federal reserve. The amount of increase on their sheet alone should be enough evidence of this for anyone with any concept of how inflation works. Even the old fed chair took responsibility for 70% of the inflation. The other 20-30% is shared by trump and Biden.

Right?

Current CPI is 3.4%

When Biden left office it was 3.0%.

So please explain…
So you measure Bidens inflation on the one day he left office? What about the other 3.99 years of his term?

We already know what happened. The Democrats got voted out of office.

LOL.. You are really forgetting the 7, 8 and 9% inflation under Biden?

You do realize that's baked in now. It's not coming back unless there is deflation, and there isn't.

Sometimes the stupidity of the left bewilders me.

Seriously don’t use trumps word against him lol.
5 Stages of Defending Trump

  1. He didn't say that
  2. He said it, but he didn't mean it
  3. He said it and meant it, but that's just Trump
  4. He said it and meant it, but it hasn't happened yet
  5. (Imma just post an emoji now, bail from this and move on to defending something else he did)

How does this explain the inflation that occurred in the rest of the world? And inflation that was, in many countries, worse than here? Are you saying the pent-up demand and hopelessly snarled supply lines had 0% to do with it?

Ah, my bad. I give about 10% blame to the pent up demand and supply chain issues. Jerome Powell was probably pretty accurate when he blamed about 60-70% of the runaway inflation on the fed. I‘ll go more 70% on fed, 15% on pent up demand and 15% on piss poor fiscal policy.

As far as the rest of the world. 2 factors. 1) the US dollar, for now, is the reserve currency. It is still the most used currency, by a landslide, in the entire world. In 2020-2022, the US dollar was still used in 80% of all transactions not involving the us for trade transactions. 2) Feel free to find me one of those countries with inflation during that timeframe that didn’t have a central bank pumping massive amounts of money into their economy. You know what, I’ll save you the trouble. You won’t find one.

Bottom line. The federal reserve kept rates artificially low for faaaaaaarrrrrrr too long in 2021 by buying the treasuries and mbs.

When in fact, it's been just the opposite. MAGA can't criticize anything their dear fuhrer says.

Well…except for the price of gas, right? I mean as soon as Trump couldn’t get a handle on Epstein he attacked Iran and gas went nuts. Biden has. Nothing to do with that. Right? That should be easy enough.

I guess what you're saying is that the current price of gas is on trump and the war??/ If yes, than I agree 100%.

In fact. I've read reports - who knows anymore what's accurate - that about 1% of our inflation is due to tariffs and other trump policies. So yea, Trump is causing part of the inflation problem today.....IMO and I have been saying this consistently. Now, I might not be right, but logic would lead a "reasonably knowledgeable person" to that conclusion

Inflation ex energy is getting crushed. Next report September 11th.

Consensus 3.4% inflation (core inflation 2.5%)

With all that’s going on inflation at 3.4%, much lower than the Biden admin.

Give me the tariffs!!!

@baltimorened Ned

You can see inflation is coming down in almost all categories except energy.

Oil is the big factor. Don’t underestimate the US military. Additionally, the same calculation that may keep this months cPI print firm (high oil), will actually start working in the administrations favor as the yoy time frame rolls along. I.e the gas was lower in Aug 2025 and then trended higher.

TLDR, as time goes by, all else the same, the CPI will come down over the next few months prints.

Well the OP is about gas prices. And yes. It’s 100% on Trump…the guy who bragged about never going to war.
