if it makes future fans that will pay to attend it's an investment.
Filling the stands makes the RU FB program look better than having empty seats.
But I can understand not liking announcing the attendance with the number of tickets sold and given away as a promotion.
Good points and you can still make additional money off concessions.

And to solidify that point. Was talking someone today who lives in the area of Rutgers stadium but never went to a Rutgers football game. She went to the game last night with her young daughter and friends. I asked her about her "game experience," and she laughed and said she had zero understanding about football, however, she said she and her younger had an absolute blast watching the cheerleaders, the dance team and soaking in the stadium atmosphere. She said she will definitely go to game in the future, and her daughter wants to go again.

We super fans and keyboard warriors tend to view things from our own little lens and viewpoint. The old saying in business that you have to spend money to make money applies here. Giveaways can bring in future customers.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
She did have some comments about the horse video and thought it should have been about 15 minutes longer, and was confused why there was no score on the scoreboard and why there was no time to chant F Penn State. 😜

That part below the line was totally made up, but everything above the line is true.

This is the type of game every season ticket holder needs to bring 2 to 4 of their prior season ticket holder buddies, friends, alums etc.

We’re going for 3-0 against a very beatable and name brand program that we haven’t played in years. And you can’t get better weather than what the forecast is showing.

Virginia Tech has a good amount of alumni in the area so they will probably have a decent showing.

I think this will be close to a legit sell out.

Very, very likely gorgeous weather (high confidence in temps in the mid/upper 70s, no rain and low humidity) should help with attendance.
Bad planning on my part. 50 mile bike ride in the Cool Cape Cycling event in Cape May County. I'll be fine weather looks great for that too! Plus love Cape May.

I think you’re being funny here, but here we go again…
He's not totally wrong.
It's a different mindset out there, and probably a different demographic. I'm guessing most of the population in Nebraska was born and raised there.
In NJ, we have a lot of transients, relocated people. We still have a lot of people, and maybe it evens out, but pride in the State U seems prevalent out there and Iowa.

I am just referring to another thread where we exhausted the same topic and people started hurling personal insults. You know, sort of like every day here…😄

That's what makes these woe-is-me giving away tickets complaining so silly. If and when the team starts competing for Big Ten division and conference titles, you've grown a new crop of thousands of fans who enjoyed their time at the game. It's not like one day everyone decides to be a diehard Rutgers fan lol - even the students!

The problem is that Rutgers is going to announce a "sellout" no matter what. We will never really know how good/bad the crowd is since the athletic department always lies about attendance numbers. RU claimed a crowd of 45,317 last night: completely laughable. 2/3 of the upper deck was empty.
2/3 of the upper decks would be about 5,300. Stadium holds 52,450.

So both 2/3 of the upper decks empty and 45,317 could be true.

We took a mini family vacation thru the Dakotas and the midWest last August. Will never forget a local radio station in Nebraska actually including an upcoming volleyball scrimmage in their sports report.

My other alma mater announced a sellout last week but the ESPN shows 90% attendance. LMAO.

I don’t think anyone has an issue with giving away tickets. Just don’t count those as “sold” and claim a sellout. Visually it’s stupid when the upper decks were more that 75% empty (at least the west side was).
The irony is that if the Rutgers athletic department stopped inflating/lying about attendance numbers it will actually look better in the long run as the team improves and actual human beings start occupying those seats instead of imaginary ones. Then Rutgers could tout dramatic increases in attendance numbers and people would actually believe them. Time to stop these shenanigans and tell the truth. There hasn't been a single sellout at our stadium since 2014.

As stated by another poster, attendance usually differs from what was sold. Rutgers is likely reporting the total number of tickets sold (45K), but due to weather, personal decision, etc., the actual crowd may be 40K. It's been explained several times, but some of you ignore it because you want to present your complaint without acknowledging the facts. Rutgers isn't alone in how they give the attendance. No one disputes the actual count at the stadium during the game. I couldn't make the first two home games, but I had tickets (3) for them.

The Jewish holiday is a legit excuse in this one though. Not sure what the population is for our fan base, but its not insignificant.

Hopefully season ticket holders observing will find friends to go to the game in their place if they didn’t sell.
We'll definitely be missing some people due to the holiday - one in our group.

Begins at sundown on Friday, September 15 and ends at sundown on Sunday, September 17. But as PSAL said, Saturday will be the big day.

I think there was one game under Shea with Mike Stephens when we almost pulled an upset in Blacksburg. But generally the games were ugly.
The Bowl Game when Flood refused to pull an ineffectual “bad” Nova.
Flood so did not want a QB controversy and ended up biting off the nose to spite the face.
Still makes me mad. We sat through the pouring rain and his ego was just being ridiculously stubborn.
Still hurts. So winnable.

Are you done trying to talk down to people? If so, I'll happily respond to your alleged "facts."

No, Rutgers isn't "likely reporting the total number of tickets sold," they are giving thousands and thousands of tickets away for free and then falsely counting them as "sales." It's not all "weather" and "personal decisions" -- many of the people given tickets didn't ask for them and had no intention of going. I'm not sure about this year, but Rutgers has also been known to dump thousands of tickets on StubHub and count those as "sold" as well.

Maybe I should start a rock band and then give away 19,000 tickets for a concert at Madison Square Garden so I can say my band "sold out" MSG.

Do that to build your fan base:
I googled what you hypothetically would do and found this
>Free concert tickets may be offered to fans by artists as a strategy to expand their fan base, generate buzz, and gain favorable press. This can be especially helpful when ticket sales are struggling because it enables the artist to fill the venue and create an exciting and lively performance environment.<

Just a curious, general question in this age of electronic tickets.

Are there still printed tickets (and the scalpers that sell them) available for games like this or have they gone the way of the dinosaurs?

One, I'm not talking down to you. Calling you out is different.

Two, it's been explained on the board how Rutgers reports attendance, but you will continue to stand on your word as gospel. All I hear is hearsay with no proof of dumping "thousands" of tickets on StubHub, giving them away, and counting them as sold. Just because you say enough doesn't make it true.

Most of the hard hitters on the board can provide facts to back up their argument. Can you?

What's your other screen name?

Still don’t have enough entrances.
Still don’t have enough scanners.
Unique architecture doesn’t help as fewer RU fans come from River Road entrance.

This guy just created an account on the board last week. His style of posting resembles another member of the board. We may have a case of someone trying too hard to get his point across and have a fake backup.
