The BE was down this season b3 cause dependable top 35 teams like Marquette and Creighton had bad seasons. They both have a lot of money and are proven winners. If they return to their normal standards there will be plenty of opportunities for Q1 wins in conference. I expect them, especially Marquette, to bounce back.
That will help but still need more to step up. Remember we got 3 in 2024 when 3 of us had some compelling arguments and all 3 were left out.

Big East needs to be better. Twice now in 3 years there has only been 3 NCAAT bids. That costs the conference millions and millions in badly needed revenue and Val needs to take this extremely seriously.

A few areas to focus.....

1) Schools need to spend money on players

Can't have 40% of the league spending $4-6 Million on players when P4 average is $8.5M. They have the ability to spend whatever they want in Revenue Sharing, take advantage of not having football and leverage the 1 advantage you have. There should be a spending floor every year and the league needs to give better guidance to schools on what will be needed every Portal season.

2) Schools need to capitalize on the Conference to pool resources and negotiate as a group

Instead of every school hiring teams of people to raise revenues from corporations, attendance, etc., the Conference should hire a team to provide these services for member schools. Making group deals with corporate sponsors should be easier and save money.

Rather than every school trying to figure out how to monetize their OOC schedule AND find good opponents, the BE should hire consultants with expertise in this and who can make group deals. Don't PAY money to play in outdated MTEs. Create your own events or partner with others to put on MTEs that create revenue for our schools. Organize a Conference vs Conference Challenge. If the P4 doesn't want to do that, make a deal with the top 11 non-P4 schools on a multi-year scheduling agreement.

3) Bring coaches together to talk about how to improve offense

Offense is improving in Division 1 every year but too many Big East teams play terrible offense. Not 1 BE school is in the top 25 in KenPom Offensive Efficiency this year. Last year only 1 team was top 25. Overall Pace of Play numbers are even worse. This style of play hurts in OOC play and it brings down the conference's efficiency metrics and NET. Too many BE games are old-school, slow-paced, physical battles.
This is why Slick Rick said Val needs to require all BE schools to set aside at least $9 mm for NIL - revenue sharing + fundraising $$. Hate this arms race, but until there are more rules, need to stay competitive.

Having one more legitimate quality player at the power 4 position would have made all the difference. You have a great chance to win some games against the top three teams and those four horrible losses would be wins . Plus you win one or two more out of conference. Just one player. They need to come up with the money to give Sha the ability to put together a balanced team . Otherwise what you saw is what we’re going to get. And if you’re not going all in then why bother spending close but no cigar type money. I really hate seeing Buzz Williams be right about his Big East prediction. And yes we are now The WCC of the East. High mid major living off of past reputations.
Our power forward was the highest ranked player on the team coming out of HS in Canada. Believe his first stop was Texas Tech, then DePaul, then Pacific before SHU. This revolving door can't help his game not the sport.

Need two-year contracts to benefit all and a stop to this crazy arms race that is ruining college sports.

It could. Dont think it will. Cause we arent getting any big games, imo.

Imagine the BE this year if we didnt add uconn and if repole wanted to spend his money on modern art.
Personally, I think Sha would replace two Big East games with Mount St. Mary's and Rider or something along those lines.

I don't completely rule out the thought he might set up a P4 home-and-home but it will be a lower level P4 like Kansas State or Georgia Tech. Certainly none of the big boys will be interested in playing us.

Agreed. I was literally going to post the same thing. You can see the quote a mile away. “Why risk ruining our momentum or injury for a non league game; our focus is on the Big East”
