a very poor judgement call. He should have been suspended for the entire national championship game. Of course, the decision comes as no surprise whatsoever.
I'm certainly no bama fan and I was cheering for UGA in that game, but that was not an illegal hit. It was the type of hit that a lot of defensive players live for. The QB had just thrown an INT and he was moving torward the play. Now, he wasn't about to make a play on the DB but he was moving in that direction. I felt like it was a cheap shot that certainly was uncalled for, but it was not illegal and therefore did not warrant a suspension.
I think a lot has be lost on the "legality" of the hit...
It wasn't a defenseless player and he didn't lead with the crown of the helmet...
it was just unecc, IMO... I wouldn't have had a problem with a 15 yard penalty, but I don't think it was a suspendible (sp) action based on the rules and precedent.
