Schiano is a lock. The other coaches are doing what they always do. Schiano raised RU from the dead, a job that no other coach even wanted to take.
I thought it was only head coaches running for COTY. Braun is interim head coach.NW coach as well, and they're one of the Original Ten.
At 5-6 no less IIRCConference COY kind of lost its luster when Terry Shea won the Big East COY.
Doomed RU to 2 more years of Shea as well...At 5-6 no less IIRC
That's why they did it. It was cynically genius of them.Doomed RU to 2 more years of Shea as well...
hahaha, I remember people saying it back then!!!!!!That's why they did it. It was cynically genius of them.
Stalion level genius.
but but but.. it's a "down year" for the Big Ten... maybe even a down year for all of college football! No achievement counts.. he's Greg Schiano!Big Ten coaches. We win 7 games Greg should win.
He was NATIONAL COTY, actually! My dumb *** had an autographed, framed photo, but lost it in a move back in 2010 IIRC.All it would mean is Greg gets a raise.
He was a "Coach of the Year" once and most people forgot about it

Calling @Richard Schnyderite or @MrsScrew or anyone with connections.. make this happen... I want to read how GS replaced AreYouNUTS irreplaceable autographed photoHe was NATIONAL COTY, actually! My dumb *** had an autographed, framed photo, but lost it in a move back in 2010 IIRC.
Which fans don’t remember it?Indeed - that's what I was saying (Home Depot and Liberty Mutual COY - among others).
Even a lot of fans don't know or remember that
The ones I told and were surprised.Which fans don’t remember it?
best uniforms we had thoughThe ones I told and were surprised.
2006 season is a long time ago
lol I never asked...my fault....what can you do??!! I'd rather "cash in my chip" for a sideline pass to the Maryland game then another autographed "COTY" photo (really, really not a big deal....I'm not a collector of stuff like that; just happened to win it in a raffle).Calling @Richard Schnyderite or @MrsScrew or anyone with connections.. make this happen... That's true - real big numbers like OSUbest uniforms we had though
agreeThat's true - real big numbers like OSU
Recent numbers have looked like Spaghetti-o's to me

Also remember the college football world was surprised how Schiano turned a joke of a program into a winning one and he deserved that COY .The ones I told and were surprised.

Yeah it’s almost like not knowing that we are the birthplace.Strange to hear how any fan of this program pre 2005 who was here during that time, forgets the COTY…
That is on them then.
I wasn’t a fan of GS 1.0 other than being our coach or GS 2.0 up until this year, but forgetting anything about 06…those people should just say they really don’t watch college football that closely.
agree, could not have been following us and forget thatStrange to hear how any fan of this program pre 2005 who was here during that time, forgets the COTY…

so from 2004 to around 2008-9 Schiano didn't impress you , even with trhe program being a winning one and gaining respect.Strange to hear how any fan of this program pre 2005 who was here during that time, forgets the COTY…

Let's clarify- in late 2004, he impressed us more than any other coach we met. 05-09, as a fan, I advocated for him quite a bit. Though, I started to feel, as a fan, he was just missing something to get us over the hump.so from 2004 to around 2008-9 Schiano didn't impress you , even with trhe program being a winning one and gaining respect.
I feel a lot of RU fans grew disenchanted with Greg after the 2008 season , feeling the program peaked and he wasn't the type of HC that was able to take it too the next level (Conference title/BCS bowls)
Right now I wonder if G2 can build a top program, but have confidence he'll build a midle of road one that will be a constant minor bowl player.
I also feel after a steady diet of minor bowls many RU fans will want Greg gone so a HC that can build a program capable of playoff appearances can be brought in to replace Schiano
Re. Recruiting, I see where you’re coming from with the lack of “ballers”. But that last class he put together as he left was a great one, and Flood benefited from that.Let's clarify- in late 2004, he impressed us more than any other coach we met. 05-09, as a fan, I advocated for him quite a bit. Though, I started to feel, as a fan, he was just missing something to get us over the hump.
I also saw his recruiting change- when he could gt NR/2* - some 3 and a very rare 4...he was getting "ballers" on the team. Then, he got star struck and hit big with his first one in AD but then brought in a kid, who I really like as a person, Forst- who never should have been a starter, much less, anointed the next AD...and kids like the Rocket but not taking kids that were just "ballers"
I also hated how he really interfered in parts of the game that he shouldn't have. Forcing his thoughts on the OL and the offense early 08. On a personal level- looking past a favorite player of mine and moving him all over the OL, and never giving him credit for the pressure he put on him on/off the field. We had to have a meeting with him prior to 09 and tell him he would not be baby sitting the other guys to meetings, and not taking the blame when they screwed up- and that in 09- he was going to put him in one spot on the OL and not move him.
So, I saw a ceiling and thought his timing to jumping to the NFL was a win/win.
After- I heard so many other things he did that not even parents were aware of- he even apologized to me when I welcomed him back as GS 2.0
So- there is my answer. to 1.0
At first, I also did not feel he would be a good answer to come back to us. Until Ash's final year where you could see the entire program was in a downward spiral and it was not just an on-the-field fix.
At that point- I felt he would be the best option and give him a chance. In the first couple of years- he fixed the program. But last year was the year I needed to see the on field product look like it may someday get out of the cellar. That didn't happen, so going into this year- I was vocal to say- if this yar was like last- we say thank you but don't come back.
And now, here we are. I see a team that has played well and if there is anyone that now doesn't think this team can get itself consistently as at least top half of the B1G, then I don't know what to tell you.
I have no idea how the man is behind closed door- hopefully, he improved. But he finally showed me that he has developed a real team and program with lots to hope for. So- 2.0 has won me over regardless of the next 4 games.
Not to overlook EL- but 2010 was going to happen anyway. The OL was already going to be bad but how does a HC leave a team with no Center? Funny story- at the 09 Army game- they put Howie B in at C toward the end of the game- and a few false starts were happening. After the game as we are chatting with the guys- Kev and AD are asking Howie WTF was up with his screwing up snap counts and getting the two of them called for penalties...Both busting his balls that he knows the scouts that will be looking at them have no idea Howie was the one screwing up. Howie- shrugs his shoulders and says "Don't blame me- you both know it was the first time I snapped a ball since Highschool and I wasn't even good at it then"Re. I have no personal perspective like you do, so I’ll take your word. I think he may have found taking the next step while recruiting as a Big East member was daunting, and tried to overcome that with too much strategery, both on field and off with personnel shifting etc.
2010 I give a pass due to the EL injury.
he was REALLY counting on the B1G invite when Nebraska suddenly happened, as he has said since.
Was KF still coaching OL at that time? Not to overlook EL- but 2010 was going to happen anyway. The OL was already going to be bad but how does a HC leave a team with no Center? 2010- Howie B really should have been a good player at any of the other 4 positions on the OL and instead- he was our center and his 3 second shotgun snaps to the QB...
And the plan to go to KC's offense when we had snaps taking so long to the QB, Savage as QB and your best OL with Fosrt and Ruch...
2010- was all on recruiting and coaching
agree with most of this and the 'behind closed doors issues/items' are indeed that, behind closed doors where they were better left.Let's clarify- in late 2004, he impressed us more than any other coach we met. 05-09, as a fan, I advocated for him quite a bit.
