RU is pretty popular in Bergen and here in Hudson...I think it's when you get out to some of the places along to 287 that you get a little bit more of a private school preference. The pay for Cult and UDel people are kind of spread out around NJ.
I'll never understand the allure of UDel. Those families should just pay for Maryland or Pitt, which at least academically makes sense as they're on the same level as Rutgers-NB. Culty Valley I can rationalize due to football. UDel doesn't have the big time winning athletics or top tier academics to warrant sending kids there for at least $15-20K more a year over RU-NB.
UDel out of state was either the same or at least negligible difference than Rutgers in state for a long time. It may have even been less about 15 years ago.
When we visited Delaware with one of my kids, although years ago, they really had a chip on their shoulders . Their claim to fame was Dupont money.
Yeah angmo, me too. This was bugging me, so I checked with a couple friends in California in academia and business and they confirmed that USC has always had a very good academic reputation, is highly selective, etc., although it is apparently not in the greatest area. Of course, that''s true of a lot of top schools in the Northeast too.
Stanford, Cal, Oregon, Washington are all non starters.
Uva and UNC on the other hand...
It's not in the greatest area. Always thought UCLA and USC should switch towns. It fits them better. Not sure if it is true or not but the original plan was for USC to be where Pepperdine resides.
SC has been buying and investing in the area around them. Their bubble is getting bigger.
When I was a senior at RU Caliknight, me and a couple friends took a spring break trip to California. We stayed at UCLA in Westwood, which was great, but we also visited Pepperdine. Wow, talk about a view!!
The co-ed situation in the B1G is severely improved with USC/UCLA in the conference now lol.
When I was a kid, I looked forward to the UCLA-USC game every year, and it had nothing to do with the actual football!!
Kids going to Delaware are generally not getting into Maryland or Pitt
I think it's more likely a safety school to RU atm. But yeah, I think it's to say you left NJ when it's equidistant or closer to half the state than NB is.
That was a main reason I chose RU-NB. As a South Jersey kid who grew up in Camden County, going to RU-NB more or less was like going away to college while staying in state. RU-NB was an hour from home which was close enough to go home for a weekend if I felt like getting a home cooked meal, but far enough away so that my folks would leave me alone and not barge in on me unannounced.

The reason Nebraska was dropped from AAU was most of their research funding is for US Dept of Ag money awarded without merit. Everybody gets a piece.
Their amount of competitive research funding slipped badly over many years and they weren't able to reverse that after over a decade of warnings.

Also, there is some difference - UDel is decent sized, but not UMD/Rutgers/PSU big.

That’s completely wrong. My son went to Udel and got into RU, PSU, Pitt, MD and a bunch of others. Even got scholarship offer from Pitt.

Hence the word “generally” - for your one example I know three kids who are going to Delaware who did not get into Pitt or Maryland. Only one of the three applied to RU and he didn’t get in.

Rowan is the de facto safety school for South Jersey kids so they always will have a sizeable number in each HS class. Temple I feel will struggle to attract South Jersey suburban kids until Philly/Temple gets their **** together with cleaning up the riff raff in the city of late. I can see UGA becoming the new OOS Flavor of the Week with the Eagles seemingly using UGA as their new farm system lol.
Except Georgia is a very good school and a lot of kids in NJ searching for a fun SEC school can’t get in there.
Yeah they're up there with UF and Vandy as one of the few SEC schools that take academics seriously. I wonder why they aren't AAU.
Rowan is a huge player now. Kids seem to be applying to Temple but not going. I put James Madison and Maryland as surprises because typically there are 4-5 kids going to each from Moorestown. Maryland seems pretty tough to get into from NJ. Here's some data from Naviance for the 22 Moorestown class. Unfortunately, the number of enrollees was only published for RU and Rowan but its nice to see RU does have the highest number of applications. Note the numbers are for specific campuses so PSU is for University Park only, Pitt is for Pittsburgh only

I give Rowan a lot of credit for building themselves up to the point of being a school that South Jersey kids legit are interested in attending. 15 years ago they were the safety school to end all safety schools in South Jersey/Philly metro area. I guess Stockton has become that now.
Is the Naviance link open and available? I'd like to do research on some of the other upper middle class South Jersey Public high schools like Haddonfield, Eastern, Lenape/Shawnee/Cherokee, Cherry Hill East/West, etc. to see how many kids are choosing Rutgers-NB compared to other schools.
No, the RU numbers are for NB only. 15 applied (14 accepted) to RU Camden and there's no yearly breakdown for Newark but it looks like less than 10 kids applied over the last 3 years combined.
