this is an argument that's not worth even getting involved in. Looking at head-to-head, there's no logical means of seeding the three. So you go beyond the head-to-head to seed, but even doing that doesn't establish clearly who should be where.

FWIW, I really wasn't too concerned about how they seeded these three. I figured they would be 1 through 3, in whatever order, and from that they each would have a legitimate shot to win the B1G Tourney.

Can I ask a stupid question? I read Greg's attached article but I don't understand the delay in announcing the final first round seedings because of the following:

Below, we have three things we learned from the pre-seeds, which are not finalized until after Friday’s coaches meeting in Evanston but are unlikely to change.

Why would a coaches meeting have influence over the pre-seeds? Is that their final opportunity to disclose injuries?

It's not a stupid question at all.

The pre-seeds are voted on by the conference coaches. They rank 14 starters in all 10 weight classes. So, when the votes are averaged out, there could be ties that need to be broken via discussion among the coaches. That happened in one weight class last year, either 141 or 149, I can't remember. Three ties must be broken this year:

--Chase Saldate of Michigan and Brandon Cannon of Ohio State are tied for eighth at 157;

--Tyler Lillard of Indiana and Maxx Mayfield of Northwestern are tied for seventh at 165;

--Yaraslau Slavikouski of Rutgers and Luke Luffman of Illinois are tied for fifth at 285.

Then, there are late-scratches or changes that need to be accounted for. Let's use last year as an example: On the pre-seeds at 125, Indiana's Michael Spangler was No. 10. However, when the bracket came out, the Hoosiers had actually entered Blaine Frazier. He was, of course, not just awarded Spangler's No. 10, but rather was put last at No. 14, and everyone bumped up one spot as a result.

So, the official seedings are finalized during the coaches meeting on Friday due to those two scenarios.

I’m out of town this weekend, but must find a TV for this one.
Jeff Byers will become my best friend!
That’s IF Arnold even makes it that far. Flo saying he may have to get through Jaxon Smith of MD to get to Carter.

Yes, that's right. They'd meet in the quarters assuming both win their first match. Arnold beat Smith 2-1 in TB1 in the dual meet season. Would presumably be a highlight bout in that round should it happen as expected.
