It would be good to get Thiero back but will not happen. Cal was the only reason Thiero was at Kentucky.
I love how so many fans have such definitive answers for all of these things.
Getting Thiero back “will not happen”
Reed is definitely gone
Z is definitely gone
Pope is going to be awful
We’re officially Indiana
UK Basketball is dead

So many people seem to know for certain what’s going to happen with no more knowledge than anyone else instead of just speculating and hoping for the best.

Truth. There's about a dozen or so that would throw down defending their position that Reed is gone.

Kid has to know what UK brings. He’s already felt the love. No need to relocate to frickin Arkansas. Stay home. Be the hero.

Not sure two big slow guys on the floor at once will fly around here.

I don't think he meant at the same time, just that we'd have 2 options at the 5 who provide similar skill sets but in different ways.

As for Pope, id hit Z with the nostalgia of playing for the school who supported him and collectively bought a billboard for him to get him to play and show him how he'd use him (in contrast to how Cal abused him). Ending the meeting with a suitcase full of cash.

You’re probably right. That would be crazy. But I’d like to see it at least once

Well it’s rumored they are after a bag, and then there a rumor that said he didn’t dislike cal, and the fans were the reason he left
Interesting about the fans. I know there’s always a few jerks but I assumed he was well liked by most.

At least it’s my perspective that the anti-Cal folks thought he was a valuable player who was misused.

Certainly my personal
Opinion. Thot he should have gotten way more run both his years and would love it if he came back.

Another player that went to the portal is Allen that would be funny if he came back to Kentucky and Pope developed him into a good basketball player after the way Cal misused him.

In some ways I would love that. Give Allen a shot at redemption under a new coach and a vastly better scheme. But not likely to happen and Allen would be better for it to go elsewhere, like Morehead or Murray State for example. Was really shocked at how most turned on this kid trashing him as a player while basically taking up for cal who **** on him during his time here and IMO one of the reasons Allen’s play suffered and seemingly yet to recover from. Whether just not that good or not, he is still a KY boy who got to wear the blue and white.

Big Z probably feels like Calipari really hooked him up by bringing him to America, and it may be tough to overcome that loyalty.

But damn I think he would flourish in Pope's offense.

Would be neat if Pope had some film pulled up to show how Cal misused him this past season and how he (Pope) will use Z in a way that allows him to flourish.

You mentioned the kid from Drexel, Williams I presume as someone else mentioned him too. He took a total of 3 threes last year so if that is who you are referring too he will not cut it in popes system, Popes rotation at BYU all took at least 3/game.
This isn't actually true. Traore averaged 20 mins a game, and only attempted a total of three 3's all season. Richie Saunders also averaged 20 mins per game, attempted less than 100 threes on the season. And there's been more as well, especially post players who have been good at the rim.

Plus, it's Pope's job, and the rest of the staff, to best implement Williams into the system how he can best succeed, if in fact they bring him to UK

I didn’t look at the entire roster, just the starting 5 plus 1 or 2 of the reserves which did in fact all average at least 3 attempts per game. Think one had 2.8 if I recall. My response was a rebuttal to how Williams would be a better fit for popes system than Theiro as needed someone who could shoot 3’s which the Williams kid didn’t even do.

Would be very easy to do. Most of us Bennie’s could easily see it who all (99.9%) do something other than coaching as a profession. Showing Cals system and Z’s utilization vs his and Khalifa’s utilization would be eye opening for him.

BBN loves him they bought the sign by NCAA headquarters and right after that the NCAA freed him… He knows we have his back too… Your right about Pope he’d be awesome in Pope’s offense.

I think Z would be GREAT with Pope - and I think that point will be abundantly clear as a result of their meeting today. But keep in mind, Cal sells YOU, he sells the INDIVIDUAL success, he sells the NBA. That is really, really attractive to young talent with NBA aspirations

Pope sells the university, the culture, the team success, belonging to a program bigger than yourself. That SHOULD resonate with players and be a great selling point. But Cal is dangling individuall success and immediate pathway to the NBA w/NBA specific prep - this is a very, very proven successful recruiting pitch...

Cal is what got him to UK, but no other elite program at the time would even consider him (he was looking at mid-majors & maybe a few bottom P5 schools).
Also, after 2 years there, don't you think the school and people and city has made an impact on him too.
So yeah, Cal may have a slight advantage (because coached his dad), I think it is exactly that "a SLIGHT advantage".

As for Z. I think if Reed announced he was returning, that would be a big lure for returning Z too. He just stepped foot in the States for the first time just 6 months ago. The only people he knows here is Cal (& ***. coaches) and his teammates. So to return 2-3 (i.e. Reed, Burks, Theiro, Hart) of those would be big for him I think.
