I can't say it's the OL as I expected them to suck and the same for the secondary......I'll have to go with Adam Brauchle..........

I think he'll be okay. He had plenty of leg on both missed kicks-just pushed both of them. If he continues the trend next week, then I'll call for a change. I think that Mullen wasted a play prior to the made field goal to give him another FG try. We have a lot of work to do. Not having an SEC quality QB really limits your options. Thanks, Crooms!!

Edit , which may not work (who knows with this ****) All I heard all year long was that Mcphee was unblockable , then He didn't do **** today. If He can't compete with what We were against today , then He doesn't have a chance to do **** vs. the rest of Our schedule.

Every time I watched him, he was in a race for the QB. Very often, the OT would water ski with McPhee's shirt tail.

You don't have to get sacks to make a big impact. McPhee was awesome.

But I hope you are right. My thing is , I don't think He even had a sack and I hope you realize what We were playing against today was MILES away from an SEC o-Line. I just expected him to do a little more than He did , especially vs. such a weak opponent. I was sold on him being a player who disrupted the other team greatly , and I did not see that from him today vs. the weakest team on Our schedule.

I think every time JSU threw deep, they had a WR behind our DBs. Letting JSU WRs get behind us so frequently makes me nervous.

If JSU can get behind us, we better bring it a lot harder on the D-line against SEC O-lines to make up for it. Of course DB was the big ? coming into the season.

There was very little blitzing done by the LBs and no zone blitzes either. Kept it low key on defense and did not reveal much.

JSU WRs should not get behind our DBs. Those few times JSU had time to throw, but its not like they had all day to throw.

...the safety was beat deep. Once it was Zach Smith, and the other time it was Wade Bonner. By and large, I thought our corners played fairly well. And those complaining about lack of pressure on the QB clearly weren't paying attention. We didn't blitz hardly any. We played a very vanilla, base defense, and keep in mind that JSU's o-line is ridiculously large.

My disappointment is with the offensive execution, first and foremost. Way, way too many penalties and stupid mistakes. We scored 45 points, but we probably left 21 more on the field. I'm pretty agitated that we could only manage a 38 point differential against Jackson Freaking State. We had two good drives killed by fumbles, and too many good plays erased by penalty. Oh, and I thought Adam Carlson graduated. Jeezus.

The Sonic Boom was also a letdown for me. I expected better. But what little of them I enjoyed, they undid it by constantly playing over the game. That **** got old very, very, very quickly.

I expected us to name the score, and we kept fumbling the ball- or should I say Ducre kept fumbling the ball, and our stupid WR's kept holding, although that seemed to be corrected at the half.

I wasn't really impressed with our QB play. Yes, Relf played well, but how would he have fared against an SEC defense today? I didn't like the two QB rotation, with us rotating Lee, then Relf, but I'm not going to get all up in arms about it because I hope it was because of the opponent that we were playing, and if that's the case, I'm OK with that. Tyson Lee didn't impress me at all either when he wasn't spasing out.

Our o-line looked better to me. Not that they are great by any means, but they looked better, they looked bigger, and they looked like someone actually attempted to coach them instead of sitting around eating chee-to's with them on a couch all off season.

Bumphis looked like he is going to be a special player. But at the same time, as far as our WR's go, we have no one that can stretch the field. They can catch little, short passes, which is nice, but we really need McRae and Wilder to step up and give us a deep threat, which we haven't had in forever so that teams won't pack in their defense aGAIN for the 12th year in a row and blow our offense up, "daring us to run".

Ducre- all I have to say is this- WTF? HOLD ON TO THE BALL!!!!! Elliot looked pretty good. Sorry Bruiser. Stallworth looked good to. The only consolation I have here and about the offense is that Dixon didn't play. If we had AD in the lineup instead of some SPD officer trying to save the universe from the evil MSU football players, we probably get at least two more first half TD's. I can't see JSU stopping AD, and I'm pretty sure that he likely would have busted at least one big run for a TD, and then sat on the sideline for the second half drinking Gatorade.

I thought the defense looked pretty good overall. I don't know why people are complaing about a lack of a pass rush. Especially when we held them to what? Five first downs until they had three on their TD drive against our third string. Rutland made some plays with his legs, but a lot of those were because we flushed him out of the pocket, and even then, we were able to stop him most of the time. They completed TWO long passes, and even then we caught the guy from behind. Rutland is not a D-I QB, but he is a D-I athlete. Fletcher Cox is an absolute beast.

I was also disappointed in Brauchle. I don't know if it was nerves, or the weather or what, but he has to hit those FG's. I thought he kicked off pretty well, and we can maybe keep him there and use DePasquale for FG's is Brauchle doesn't start to convert them. Hutchins looked good. JSU's ST's were horrible, so it's hard to say that we made a lot of improvement, but I think we have.

more to do with the players/personnel and a lot less to do with the coaching/scheme? I agree with you that the execution was piss poor. I just feel like those same players with that same execution would have struggled to score 28 under Croom.

deep balls. I'm not saying our DBs are going to be world beaters (they are the biggest point of concern on that side of the ball), but just because they got beat twice does not mean that the sky is falling. Also, you can't ignore the strong run support they gave on the very few times JSU's pathetic offense managed to break a run past our defensive line.

and will add to your list that JSU made so many unforced errors that I really have a hard time telling how good -- or suspect -- our defense was. JSU did everything they could to help our defense out.

I think our WRs were holding because they couldn't block. We had A LOT of short yardage runs that were going to be huge gains if our WRs could block. Instead, or WRs were push aside like girls while the CB made a tackle.

My biggest concern coming out of the game are WRs getting deep behind our DBs and our WRs not being able to block well enough for our offense to produce big running plays out of the spread.

I'm really thinking that anyone with a halfway decent QB and serviceable WR's is going to torch the crap out of us 6-7 times a game unless the D-Line keeps the QB running for his life.

yep, he missed two field goals but the guy can kick....kind of like a guy who can shoot the basketball.....he has the skills and just needs to keep kicking. The more times he kicks in games the better he will get. I just hope he continues to get those opportunities.

saved AD's career OR better yet his or someone else's life. I know those officers sometimes overkill on students (been there done that) but in this case I choose to believe it will be good in the long run.

cause when you are playing a running QB that does not have a good history of making great passing decisions then the defense's job is containment, not sacking. I know sacks are fun but basing your assessment of the offensive line in this situation on sacks is unfair because that was not the game plan. The last thing you want is to have people breaking into the back field and flushing Rutland out of the pocket.

So, my question is did you actually look at what McPhee did in the game or are you just looking at stats and saying he didn't do a good job? From my review of the game I think he did exactly what we asked him to do. Put pressure on the QB without losing containment. Having Rutland jacking the ball into the air is not a bad thing (although he made three pretty, long passes).

we had fumbles and penalties. Otherwise, we did a lot of what we wanted to do.

And that's why you open with Jackson State and not LSU, South Carolina, or at La Tech.

get a guy that just goes out there and kicks short mid range field goals and makes them ? Rather that having to suffer with a number of games where he misses field goals, but gets progressively better?
