Interesting. Apparently Moore's choice with Saban approval. Battle is 72. Saban coaches 4 more years, Battle retires, Saban steps into AD, Smart takes over as HC.

According to al.com, Bill Battle is Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle's first cousin. No significance to that, but an interesting bit of trivia.

Seems that he was the youngest corch in major college football when he was at Tennessee. I think he was fired off because they couldn't beat Alabama...kind of like Charlie Mclendon at lsu

battle coached tn down one victory each year

for the 4-5 yrs he was there. started out 10-1, then 9-2, etc. they finally caught on. or at least that is my recollection.
