I'm on mlb.com's live draft tracker and it's been about 5 picks behind you all night is why I ask.

this ensures we'll see Renfroe in a Mississippi uniform next season. Dammit. Why'd he have to fall to the 3rd round?

Really? Was he looking for 1st round money? I guess the silver lining here is he was taken by a team that clearly has the money to pay above slot if they really want him.

but I remember seeing an article on him somewhere where he said that he was drafted higher than the fifth round, he would sign.

At least that part is done.

Boston got a potential first-round talent in the third round in Mississippi prep infielder David Renfroe, who has some Casey Kelly in him. Like '08 first-rounder Kelly, Renfroe played high school quarterback, shortstop and pitcher. Like Kelly, Renfroe wants big money. Scouts are split on whether Renfroe should pitch (he's up to 95 at times and the ball comes out of his hand easy) or hit, but he wants to hit, and try to play shortstop. Scouts see him more as a third baseman as a position player.

that signed last year was astonishing. I didn't count, but the number has to be in the 90's percentage-wise.

Another thing to consider is that Renfroe is probably throwing around the $3 mill number to ensure that he gets a million and a half or something like that. Start high.

then i will be very impressed. that's their triple A club. you're still right -- good organization + chunk of cash = bye bye.

I must say that I am a little surprised that Baker went that high. I kind of figured he would be in the area of round 15.

yea, he could try again for 1st or 2nd round next year and end up in the system for the Royals. I would go with the BoSox

I don't see him moving up a ton in the draft by coming back. He is what he is, a patient hitter with no power, good outfield range, and an average at best arm. I don't see what coming back would do for him. 7th round is decent enough money to go. I doubt he stays.

If he goes to Ole Miss he can't be drafted until after his junior year or is 21. How could he try again next year??
