You say the previous meetings have been in the first round... This is incorrect. 1990 the two faced off in the Division 6 Central Region Final and they met in round two in 2014. So you are correct about the deepest these two have met, just not the first round part.
yeah, I had some of that wrong: I was thinking "round of 16" as when they met (obviously, recently that's not first round). Also missed that 1990 was in Regional Championship. I also missed a game (probably 1990) so the Springers are 3-4 against Bird and this is their 8th meeting this weekend, not their 7th.
