Maybe for the 55m but that's a very specialized race. For the 100m there's been at least 2 players in recent memory who are as fast or faster than Beck and likely a scattering more if you go further back. One's at UT on a track scholarship and the other went to JMU for football (the one at UT holds the all-division 100m and 200m records in Virginia).
He's probably top 10 all-time if you're talking 100m speed and also played football, but not the fastest ever.
Beck's 10.41 100M was the fastest ever ran at a VHSL State finals, all divisions. Fastest ever ran in Virginia (FAT/Wind Legal) is Noah Lyles (10.14). Beck is 3rd on that list.

If he gets in the open field, people are going to have a tough time catching him. I know you guys will play devils advocate and say there are faster guys that don't run track. I will be the stubborn person that just says that is not true.
If there are guys capable of running sub 11, they are running track as well. Not just playing football. Another misconception people have, just like the misconception that every HS has multiple kids running sub 4.4 40's.
Reality is, he is fast. If he get's a block or two, he could break the game open against ANYONE.

Just speaking for one school. The fastest guys at Salem high school seldom run track. They are in the weight room, 7 on 7, and quite a few play lacrosse
Guys it doesn't matter.. if Cole ran a 10.41 legal F.A.T. time then he is faaaaast! I ran a sub 11 sec 100M. I clocked a 10.7 100M time hand held which equates to a .26 sec slower FAT time which would have put me at 10.96 FAT and I can tell you For a large percentage of my life I never lost a race in the street or on the track. A 10.41 FAT is lightning fast. There maybe only 15 high schoolers in the country that can run that maybe even the world. If we filled Richmond raceway with 100,000 random grown men there is a good chance he would be faster than everyone in there! HE IS FAST AS ****!
And yet somehow still faster. Unless you want to ignore 200m as well and pass it off as something that doesn't count as much.
Ramsey, and all state wife receiver. Noah Beckley was fast also. Not a lot of Salem kids that have been fast have run track.
I generally agree with you there... but that typa speed is world class and fast anywhere.
Sometimes when a player is that fast on the high school level he can get away with not being a good runner in terms of vision etc.
I have yet to see him in person, is he genuinely a good runner or just blazingly fast?
The fastest "on the field" player I have ever seen was percy harvin but he was also a 2 or 3 time state champ in the 100M but his on field speed I have never seen dupplicated. It was like everyone else was stuck in mudd.
If speed was it for RBs, he'd probably be the #1 back in the country. There's obviously more to it. That speed alone will garner him a lot of offers (and already has) and secure him a P5 school but he's not a 5* RB and there are holes in his game that prevent the Alabamas and Ohio States from dropping down an offer. He'll need to find the right fit at the next level, a place that will emphasize his strengths and minimize his weakness.
He tends to stand out more around here because even a 3* level kid like him is fairly uncommon but in the 757 he would blend in a bit more as they have 3* RBs, well, all the time. Definitely not as fast but you have them.

Noah Beckley's self reported 40 time. 4.5. HS kids usually fudge their 40's to look better. but let's say he is a 4.5 which was definitely timed with a coaches stopwatch (Not FAT) would convert to a 40 around 11.1 (find a calculator online)

If there are guys from salem that are capable of running a sub 11 100m but aren't running because of their dedication to football, they are doing themselves a huge disservice. Throwing away a track scholarship by chasing the ghost that is a football scholarship. I love football as much as the next guy but that is a reality. You seem pretty close to the program. You might let those guys on Salem that are faster than Mr. Beck know that there is money out there to be had and they are throwing it away by not proving how fast they are in the spring.
I'll betcha Phoebus fans would agree that the stopwatch doesn't matter. He's just fast, plain and simple. I read a comment from a Phoebus fan that said Beck just pulled away from their fastest player. Leading up to the game, it was all "y'all haven't played against this much speed"....I tend to agree, Blacksburg practiced against greater speed....
That sounds like Dyrell Roberts when he was at Smithfield. All of the other kids looked like they were running in slow motion. All he needed was just a tiny seam and the footrace was over. Ring up 6 on the scoreboard. Now, he ran track for the Packers, but not his JR and SR years, the Hokies staff wanted him in the weight room on their diet plan, not rising a hamstring injury or rolled ankle....that's what he told me....I also know that when he got to Tech he ran a few sub 4.3 - 40's...
Terry Kirby had unreal field vision, he had another gear that he could turn on when needed. Also fun to watch, he'd get all hemmed up and then BOOM, in the open field, running all alone. Fans would just look at each other and say "WTF"....
I still remember that Terry Kirby UVA team with Shawn and Herman Moore. I remember watching them lose that game to GT I believe when I was about 8 years old. At least they were number 1 for a week.
I was at that game. I won some on-air contest on old WROV in Roanoke that included a ticket to the game and the bus trip up and back. I went to a few Virginia football games that way. That one was painful. Really painful, for us Cav fans. IIRC, UVa had a late go-ahead touchdown negated for not having enough men on the LOS.
The bus ride home was an odd, potentially volatile mix between the two-thirds who had just wanted a free outing, and were by then "well-lubricated", and the one-third of us who actually gave a damn about what had happened on the field, and were sitting there in stunned, funereal silence.
No one said those kids were faster on the track than Beck. Do not put words in my text. I said Salem over the years has had kids that could run sub 11 100m and they did not run track. It obviously has not hurt the football program one iota

How do you know they ran sub 11 100M times if they didn't run track? Are you just guessing or have some of them actually been timed in a FAT meet at some point. There maybe only 10 kids in the state that run a sub 11 FAT time. Only 8 athletes in 3A and 4A combined ran under 11 seconds FAT this year. Most were barley under 10.95 or higher. For most teams, even their fastest player is not running a sub 11 100M FAT time. Remember that 100M is 111 yards. If you are covering that distance in under 11 seconds you are rolling. The kid from Blacksburg actually has World Class level speed for an 17-18 yr old.
I am not unfamiliar with track and field. I am very familiar with what real speed looks like on a football field and how that might translate to the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters. I have seen in person 10. 4 in the hundred meters. I have seen 21. 6 in the 200 meters and 47.3 in the 400 . Salem has had some kids that would have been very good in track and field and they have not participated. This has been true for many years.
When I was a hiker I almost stepped on a timber rattlesnake. Idk what my speed was, but I probably would have qualified for states in the 100m, hurdles, etc... in heavy hiking boots and a backpack.
Becks top 5 Pitt ,ECU , UVA , UNC, and Louisville. Apparently running track doesn't hurt football one iota. I hate this one sport specialist crap, I advise all kids to play everything you get a chance, you can't turn back time.............................
VT's been watching him plenty, had him to camp a few weeks ago. They didn't see him fitting in and it is what it is.
its a number thing, they would love for him to walk on, but why would he. Hokies are right at the 84 85 mark on schollies and only grad 14 and maybe a couple leaving early , making even a grayshirt damn near impossible. I have a feeling this fall wont be the last time he wears the blue and gold in Blacksburg. That's strictly my own opinion.
