On TV there is definitely bells ringing when they are not suppose to. It seems to have gotten louder in the Georgia game. Is there any hope for the Bell to stay legal?

"the noise levels are so high you can bet that arrangement won't be expended in 2011"

But, by this logic, they should do something to restrict the noise levels for the top 18 teams as well.

In 2010, the cowbells are nowhere near as loud as they were in 2009.

It sounds bad on TV because the mics are by the student section where they are the worst cowbell offenders. But in the stadium its not that bad. And nothing like last year.

Speaking of last year, our AD hired sound people to study noise levels in all the SEC stadiums and we were just average. Average in 2009 when the cowbells were a lot louder than they are this year.

Yeah, a rule is a rule. We broke the rules in 2009 and we're doing it again in 2010.

I just wish the SEC would sack up and recognize that home field advantage in Starkville, even with cowbells, is just plain average for the SEC. And eliminate the stupid rule - which was put in at a time when referees could take action against natural fan noise. The NCAA has grown up since then and the SEC should too.

The more people (in the SEC region and nationally) recognize and think of the bells more as our 'tradition' than as some sort of competitive advantage, the better off we'll be.

We have a great gameday atmosphere, and it's getting better and better. One that visitors actually enjoy overall (with a few exceptions from sore losers). And after they have been here, they generally understand that the bells are part of a great experience and don't actually affect the game at all. I can't remember the last time the other team had a delay of game penalty because of the cowbells... Or tell me the last time an opposing player complained about them... Anyone?

When you go to Deaf Valley, you want to get there in time to see the pre-game "Hold that Tiger". Go to Auburn, you want to see the eagle fly. I went to Autzen and wanted to hear how loud it was. I want to go to Beaver Stadium, and I want to see this 'white out'. It's part of each campus' unique experience, and it's part of why people travel to games. In my opinion, we need to use this as the basis for our argument to keep the bells. I would bet that if ESPN picks up on this and conducted a poll, that most people around the country would vote "let them keep their tradition" or "who cares?"... either of which Strick could use as ammo.

because i just can't believe that having sold out crowds who are encouraged to bring cowbells to the game could possibly be quieter than crowds last year

I think you may have a misconception ofwhat Beaver Stadium really is. It's just the place where Oregon State plays football games.

I wonder if they did that on purpose.

P.S. But on the plus side, I did visit taco alley Friday night.

That ringing is nowhere near as loud in 2010 as it was in 2009.

The difference in 2010 is that a large percentage of people are trying to follow the rules. If its louder on TV, I suspect its because the TV people realizing that cowbells are now a story are trying to pick it up with mics, especially in the student section where they party and ring like its 2009.

it's slightly louder than 2009 when we're allowed to ring, definitely quieter when we're not. I still don't know that we've topped the sound during the Anthony Johnson INT return from '07, but we've come pretty close a few times. I did notice the pitch of the crowd noise seemed lower for the UGA game than Auburn. Hopefully that's people realizing they can keep up the low pitches for longer periods during the game (at least I know I can).

impressed at all with the game day experience and crowd noise when we played them at their place. Most of the fans were nice but there was a bunch of asshats that mouthed off to us after the game (of course in didn't help that the Ducks skull dragged us that day). Gorgeous area for a campus not so much for the fans (not very many hotties).

sometimes it is hard to tell what you guys are talking about when you say it isn't as loud this year as last year. and i agree that they are likely setting up mics in the student section. i'm sure they do that at most games on any campus. lord knows it ain't the blue hairs creating the most noise.
