Surprising to see this less than 2 weeks before a match with Mexico. Looks like they'll name an interim coach tomorrow.</p>

I expect them to name a new head coach. I think they waited this long to fire him in order to line up the next guy. I see the next coach being a big name foreigner(Klinsmann, Lippi, Hiddink, Scolari, ect.) or Jason Kreis.

Hopefully this means we never have to see Borstein again. It should also open up the depth chart again and make all the "starters" work harder.

Then after google, realized It wasn't some upstart d3 school like The University of South Montana Needlework and Taxidermy.

But instead, a much less relevant team.

First order of business is to ban Borstein and Kljestan from international duties...forever.

...this: 'US Soccer insider: "You're not going to be surprised" by identity of new coach'

I guess you could read that many different ways, but to me, that says it's Klinsmann (or Bruce Arena... or Sigi Schmid... or Claudio Reyna...). Actually, I'd be very surprised, based on the timing, if it's not Klinsmann.

Weren't we pretty close to naming Klinsmann our coach after the 2006 World Cup? He would be my first choice ifwe could manage to land him. I just hope we can find someone who can shore up our defense...we have blown many leads with the guys we currently have back there.

I think we could win the dang World Cup if we get all of the best players from around the world to gain US citizenship and then just put them all out there. So, why don't we do it?

Heck, we're the country that came up with the original Dream Team for basketball, why not do it for soccer?

Plus, taking the best players off of the other teams around the world will weaken them.

Why don't we just go out and get 15 guys from Brazil or Spain or other countries and nationalize them? We could interweave them with who we have now and possibly have a top 15 or top 20 squad. Serious question, and i'm a huge soccer fan

Once you've played for a country for a certain number of matches, you are tied to that team for life. <div>

There have been players who have played with the younger national teams, though, and then switched countries because they did not make the World Cup squad for that country. Kevin Prince Boateng from Ghana comes to mind. Grew up in Germany and played for their younger squads but didnt make the national team so he decided to play for Ghana. It was strange in the World Cup this past year because Ghana and Germany were in the same group, and Kevin's brotherJerome played for Germany. Also, Torres for the USA played for younger Mexican teams but came to the USA team after not being selected I believe. Once you play 1 national team game, though, you are bound for life.

I'd be surprised if it's anybody other than Klinnsman. And if it is him, we should have done this 5 years ago. Better late than never.

To answer someone else's question, I'm pretty sure the rule is if you've played for one country's national team, you can't ever play for anyone else. But we could poach some junior players from other countries if they had dual citizenship. I don't think that's too likely though.

No. 1, they would have to have US Citizenship, and getting that without having a parent who is American is pretty tough. Especially if we are trying to get a guy who didn't pan out with his country.<div>
</div><div>No. 2, we have to make sure he isn't capped (playing an actual full-fledged FIFA event, not a friendly) with that country.<div>
</div><div>No. 3, the process is slow to be naturalized (took seven years for my wife), so if they decided that they can't play for Brazil/Spain/Etc. but could play for us, they might 26-29 before they could even suit up unless they get a special exemption.</div></div><div>
</div><div>No. 4, it hurts the chances to build some experience in our player pool if we just go out and get a guy to fill in a spot.</div><div>
</div><div>No. 5, we actually have done pretty well identifying guys who are dual-citizens, and have had some pretty good success getting them into our player pool. We lost Rossi, but have done well in other areas (Jermaine Jones, Timmy Chandler, Alejandro Bedoya, Freddy Adu, Juan Aguedelo, Jozy Altidore, Oguchi Onyewu, Mixx Diskerud, David Yelldell, Benny Feilhaber [actually born in Brazil, lol]). We have some good young dual-citizenship kids overseas as well, especially in Germany.</div>
