Looking at the standings, Vandy is not as good as they've been, Kentucky is 8-0 (Cohen left them in shambles, remember), LSU and Ole Miss will be average and beatable. Georgia might be the class of the SEC with Arky, Florida and Carolina. Might finish better in the SEC that we thought. We'll be hitting better at the end of the year.

We won't win many Friday night games this year.

Goals still the same: Hoover & NCAA regionals.

"hitting" hasn't really been the issue, it's hitting with power. Singles aren't going to win many baseball games. We're really going to have to manufacture runs this year, because I'm not sure we're going to see many 2 run doubles or 3 run home runs.

I'm not sure that's something that develops over the course of a season.

.....is what Cohen lives for - playing mind games between pitches, taking everything the defense gives you and more. Games like last night are his specialty. Just pressure and pressure and pressure until they crack. Big contrast vs. Polk's station to station and taking on every pitch except 3-2. Which is best, who knows, I like the way Polk used to wear pitchers out, but he never took advantage of the opponents mistakes. We all said Polk never took chances to manufacture runs, now Cohen does and we call him stupid. Good thing is now that the talent is coming is it shouldn't matter.

hit in Dudy Noble in February and then again in April/May? I can not stress enough how big of a difference it is, especially in that particular park for whatever reason....

The longball is definitely something that develops over the course of a season, especially in our yard. That is not even taking into account the advancement and maturing of the hitters(which I realize was your primary point)....

Cohen being gone from Kentucky. Didn't they suck the previous 3 years? So wouldn't he have left them in shambles and now they are good if the 8-0 is a true representation?

Cohen did well while he was there, they sucked when he left with his players and now they are good again.

It could have been because of his coaching or he left the cupboard bare. Showing their record before he came doesn't prove anything to me.

damn, dude. Do you really disagree? I don't see where they sucked after he left. It's Kentucky baseball. Winning more than you lose is an accomplishment.

12 and 13 wins in the SEC isn't sucking. Especially for a school like Kentucky.

He had 4 unearned runs. He wasn't sharp but we lost bc of 4 errors. Do you actually pay attention to the games or just twist everything in the most favorable (usually delusional) light possible? Didn't you lose to Memphis, a team we beat 7-2, with their #5 starter on the mound?

In April and May we'll be facing much better pitching.

We're 9th in slugging, 9th in RBIs, and tied for last in HRs so far this year. I'll be surprised if we finish much higher than where we currently are in any of those categories. We'll just have to let pitching carry us.

The pitching talent will get better, I agree. Lively arms also give up lively shots, especially in the launching pads around the league. I agree that we likely finish bottom 6 in the SEC in the listed power categories... not because I think we'll be "bad" persay(as is being repeatedly implied on this board, not by you necessarily), but because the 5-6 teams outhitting us will likely be top 10-15 overall teams at the end of the year. I think, currently, we are fielding a 16-25th best team, with a ton of pitching depth that will be invaluable come tournament time, and a clutch "it" factor that could potentially take us a bit higher when the bright lights come on....

I'm hedging my bets that our young guys improve to a greater extent than the pitching competition does and that our power numbers, both in hr, slugging, and OPS get consistently better every month through the season... but it probably will around the league in other places too...

If I remember right, they've also taken quite a few hits from the MLB draft as well the past few years, with some of their best recruits....
