Man, Ford looks like a player and we need a first baseman. Would be nice.

After reading that UVA board a little I wouldn't mind skimming their top 5-6 players. "But how could they choose Starkville?"

I'm super excited about this hire and I'm not "pre-shtting", but let's remember that we finished with a better record and 30 points higher in the rpi than Virginia. Let's not get super upset if he doesn't get a bunch of Virginia players from the portal. I'm sure he will cherry pick a few and he knows which can help.

I'm fired up about this staff though. Can't wait to see who they bring in.

We're also losing a lot of starters, doesn't hurt to bring in some of the more proven guys off the UVA roster but we certainly shouldn't take everybody. We should go after Valincius and Ford for sure and maybe Lanzendorfer and Becker after that

I’m also curious how he’ll handle our current commitments. A buddy of mine’s nephew is a commit, and I hope he ends up in Starkville!

Our portal shopping list in my personal descending order of priority:
Catcher
Proven P4 Starting Pitcher
2 Outfielders
Proven Closer
Starting Pitcher
(big gap because we have options on the roster)
First Baseman

The easy vision for #'s 2 and 3 is Ford plus the Valincius brothers. Nunnallee is another easy fit for that OF spot as well.
Another possible UVA target might be Matt Augustin...he was their closer in 2024 and sat out 2025 with an injury.

Offhand, my moral compass hates the thought of raiding another school's roster/recruits after we grab their coach, but if they're all going to depart anyway, we might as well grab what we need. At some point this scenario will likely happen to us, but being nice now won't help us then.

He’s bringing almost all his current UVA staff which everyone seems to think is a top notch staff. Wake Forest is now finished so we should hear one way or the other about their pitching coach soon.

After initial research, here are the players I want (all currently in the portal):
  • Tomas Valincius - do not contact
  • Eric Becker - do not contact
  • Aiden Teel - do not contact
  • Henry Ford
Does Jay Woolfolk have eligibility left? I'm guessing no.

Back in 1994 or so, I was living and working in Memphis. I listened intently to 560 am, the sports talk station, every night for any State-related news I could get. There wasn't much. But one night, I was in my car in the parking lot of Albertson's, when Keith Easterwood started talking about us. He was reporting some recruiting news, and I remember crystal clear him saying, "Richard Williams is building a monster in Starkville." A year and a half later, I always remembered him calling it as we mowed down Cincy and then UConn.

So I don't say this lightly, but I think Brian O'Connor is building a monster in Starkville right now. I think some of you boys need to get on board.
