Now, granted I have no idea what the bodybuilding circuit is these days but folks are saying this dude is the next Arnold and can bring bodybuilding back from the weird asss, bubble gut ogre type stuff it has become. Hopefully the days of Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler and Phil Heath are over. The bro science during this period caused a lot of problems.

Cutler is his trainer. You can avoid the gut and get the same muscular results if you’re willing to pay, steroids have become quite refined now that their usage has expanded into the general population

I didn’t think he was his trainer. I thought he just trained with him a couple of times and interviewed him.

Pretty crazy to see that guy go from eating caniac combos, wendy's chicken sandwiches, and drinking gallons of chocolate milk to actually getting his diet right and cutting to win that competition. If you haven't seen his transition from over 270 lbs to 216 lbs for this competition, it's pretty impressive. His face cleared up a good bit too so i'm guessing he dialed it back a little on the roids.

I know, I know. But it’s either dive into lifting weights/fitness or continue on the previous path to full blown alcoholism.

I’m trying to choose the slightly fruity path.
I applaud anyone who is trying to grow as a person. And I guess checking out the size of a dudes quads isn't exactly a lot different than watching one throw and catch a ball

Ronnie Coleman used to love to talk about his diet back in the day on youtube, but he never wanted to mention which steroids he was using. He used to call his supplemental container his tackle box.

Yeah, all those guys had one. For medicinal reasons.

I still think diet is most of it. Steroids are more of an ‘edge’.

Are roids still even illegal in sports? I don’t even know the state of them right now. Always thought it was a little overblown as far as what they really can do.

I’ve managed to get into lifting without getting the bodybuilding circuit
I like the science behind.

I’m not watching shows here. Thought it was funny how Sulek just showed up and won his first one.

I wish it would get more athletic and not just short guys bulking beyond recognition. I like reading about the tie between overall strength training and sports. Being strong ain’t never bad.

Elite bodybuilding is 100% genetics. You can't steroid or diet your way in to that. That said, the top pros are on massive amounts of gear.

You’re discounting the work and consistent diet that goes into it. Even the bubble gut era guys worked their assses off.

But yeah when you have an Arnold or Sulek who have their shlt together….hard to beat them.

He’s absolutely not his trainer. Sam is a fitness influencer who decided to go into bodybuilding. He did a video with Cutler where they trained together, Cutler gave him an honest critique and said he looked “decent”. That lit a fire under Sam. He really got serious with his diet after that and leaned out a lot.

Also Sam is competing in “Men’s classic physique”. There is a weight limit based on your height in the division. The Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler’s of the world compete in Open Bodybuilding. There is no weight limit, that is where you see the mass monster steroid freaks. Although to be clear everybody is on steroids, including Sam. Chris Bumstead, who just retired, won the Mr. Olympia in classic physique the last 5 years in a row and became the most popular bodybuilder on the planet. He helped to bring things back to a more normal look. Sam has a long way to go though before he’s in that caliber.

Yes Sam won his first competition but that was an amateur show, competing against other amateurs. He now can compete in the Arnold classic next week against actual pro bodybuilders. He will not win that, he’s just not in that league right now. Still needs another year or two training and learning how to pose.

Working your *** off is a given. I can give you countless guys who ate by the bible, worked out like madmen, and took massive amounts of gear but didn't get the big wins due to genetic shortcomings. Kai Greene, Branch Warren, Cedric McMillen, and plenty more. It's usually 1 or 2 weak areas they have no control over that keep them from being champions.

If your testosterone is less than 300 and many of Gen Y's, are you can get TRT legally.

Back in the 90's WCW was in Jackson and I worked out at the Golds Gym. Bill Goldberg and bunch of them came in to work out while I was there. Goldberg needed someone to workout with and I got to work out with him. He showed me some good stuff that I still use today. I tried to do a body building show when I was 28 but when I diet down and got to 3% body fat, I looked too skinny. I was ripped and bigger than most other 28 natural body builders but there was no way I could compete, against all the guys who were shooting juice into their ***. so, I bowed out. I could probably do master's and do alright today. I am bigger and stronger than most other 60-year-olds. I have no desires. I just addicted to lifting weights and probably go six days a week until I die.

He’s 23. He definitely can get his pro card if he keeps at it. He could get it next weekend if he wins but the Arnold is a really big show, it will have the top amateurs in the country there trying to turn pro, very tough competition. He proved he can stick to a strict diet, do lots of cardio and get really lean, that’s the tough part. Lots of guys can hammer steroids and build some muscle but you have to get lean to seriously compete in bodybuilding. I think he got down to 3% body fat for this.
