Wanted BG to be a part of the future. But, I strongly question his decision making and maturity. And it looks like, from the way he's handling this situation, my suspicious are correct. Be a man, and put out a statement. Own your decisions. This looks pretty weak.
He has a one year old so he could potentially want to return to his home areas for help raising the baby, I can’t fault him for that.

NIL sets things up where it’s a lot easier to walk and get paid than to put in hard work and invest in the future. Not saying that’s what’s happening here but it’s on the rise for sure.

Bring in Alvaro and andrija jelavic
I would think our pursuit of Alvaro will be fully on if he indeed is leaving. It appears he is from all this. If he does leave we shouldn’t trash the dude. He played hard and gave us his all. We had a fun year and he was a fairly large part of it especially off the bench. Wish Kerr and him well whoever they end up. Always a Cat. Maybe he will come back his senior year, we never know these days.

Ummmm…..isn’t this going to crush our team APR??? Not sure if the NCAA really pretends to care about that anymore but if they do that’s really not cool on his part.
I did some internet research and APR is definitely still a thing the NCAA pretends to care about. It’s a rolling 4 year score and it was suspended for two years because of COVID so Garrison isn’t going to single handedly tank it but this IS NOT how you handle this situation just ask Daniel Orton.

You'd think a guy would just say that instead of just slinking away. People understand wanting more money. Sure. People understand family obligations. Absolutely. Again, this is just weak. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it, but I think it shows his maturity level.

Because its something still within their control. One of the fewer and fewer aspects of college athletics that they have dominion over these days.

It would be interesting if the receiving team of a transfer had to also take on their APR hit from the previous year for their previous team as part of the transfer.

I think it was Q and getting recruited over that triggered this. And Q may not play until January. I would have preferred Garrison to stay, but rolling the dice for as just as good a replacement in the portal is okay with me.
Yep and I’m still fighting Shaedon Sharpe ptsd on J Quaintence.
I’m not banking 100% he ever plays for UK.

Better get somebody if BG is leaving and if he’s going why hasn’t he gone in the portal and announced it?

All I can say is he would be a total outlier in his peer group if he chose that route.

I think losing Garrison is a much bigger deal than others on here. I think continuity is important and there is a severe lack of impactful big guys in the portal. Moreno is not ready to play meaningful minutes and JQ will be coming off a torn ACL (and is not a 5). UK is incredibly weak at the 5 without Garrison.

There are very few who are a certain upgrade over BG. He showed glimpses of being a star and we have seen guys all over the country at other teams make huge leaps after they have been in a program multiple years.

Wanted him to stay for a couple reasons. Familiarity in Pope's system as well as limited replacements in the portal. That said, we could have lost a much more important piece going into next year. Glad we are holding on to Chandler and Oweh.

Glimpses of being a star? I must have missed that.

It is better move for him in his real-world life by returning to likes of OU, Oklahoma State University. He has a baby to raise, and he can play a bigger role in his hometown

My concern is what do we do when JQ isn’t ready and we are sitting there with Moreno as the only legit 5 man with SEC play starting? Or worse, what if JQ doesn’t get to play at all? That would be tough.

Even if we add Folgueiras, he is 6’9, 215-ish, maybe, and played in a low major league last year. How will he do at the 5 in the SEC?

Starting Dioubate at the 4 and Folgueiras at the 5, with Williams and Noah as our reserves at the 4 and Moreno as our reserve at the 5 leaves very little wiggle room.

I know some of you guys are salivating at the prospect of “getting rid of” Garrison, but not me. We likely get significantly smaller and less experienced without him.

Garrison is the absolute worst

And yet Pope doesn’t say a word to him. Doesn’t yell, doesn’t bench him. There are no consequences for playing lazy and soft with this coach.

What a dumbass. Another technical foul by Garrison

Garrison misses a three, stands there watching and then is late back on defense

I don’t see that comparison at all. Not even close. Jones was a superstar as a freshman, Garrison has been a mediocre back up

Garrison missed that three by about 7 feet

Sit Garrison down!!!

After letting UNC skate for decades of academic fraud they surely couldn't, with a straight face, pretend to care about academics now.

Roster isn’t finished so why worry about this? Portal open for another 2 weeks and nba draft drop offs are gonna happen so if BG leaves you think Pope is just gonna ignore that and not do anything ?

Points taken but I thought Moreno looked better than Wilson at the McDonald's AA game and last fall we were penciling him in as a starter if he had came.

He had glimpses of talent but mainly looked selfish and lost out there. He was almost always the recipient on big plays and was never the guy that made them for himself or for others.
I agree 100% about the selfish part. He also had the worst timing on defense ever. It seemed that he was a split second too late rotating over from the weakside or just jumped a tick too late. Either way the shot would always be just over his outreached hand.

TBH.. we were incredibly weak at the 5 with Garrison.. now even more so!
