Braves fans - Is Chipper done?

I see that his ridiculous catch-and-throw resulted in a torn ACL... Does this end his career? It looks like the injury won't keep him from being ready for opening day next year (according to this article), but he's already talked of hanging it up after this season. Anyone got any insight?

As much as I don't really care for him or the Braves, he was obviously a very rare-talent. Could play multiple positions and switch-hit with power... It'll be weird to not see him in a Braves uniform.

I figured he was definitely done. He was already considering this as his last year. I find it hard to believe that, as injury prone as he is these days, he would rehab to come back for a season in which Bobby Cox will not be there. Bold Prediction: Chipper rides the bench as a pinch-hitter andDH in the world series. He pulls a "Gibson" to win the Series and the teamcarries him and Bobby off the field into the sunset. And they all lived happily ever after. Best world series ending in history.

As I posted on the last thread, i'm not getting what i'm hearing. From my ACL experience, an ACL that is not completely torn does not need surgery. Yet they're saying his is only partly torn yet requires surgery. Maybe because it's a replacement ligament? And that 6 month figure seems low, but then it's only a partial tear, and mine without surgery only needed about three months for normal activity.

Anyway, he was hitting well since the non-announcement many weeks ago, about on a .300, 30HR pace. Doubt he'll hang it up if he thinks he can replicate that next year. He has 2 yrs at ~$12M on his contract. Pretty bad situation for the ballclub, having to commit that much to a guy who may retire, while simultaneously having to have a replacement ready. I'm sure the club would prefer to know now so they can line up a FA. If it were me, I'd want to come back on a performance contract.

It's all up to if he's ready to hang em up. He apparantly needs the surgery anyway, so if you're gonna go thru all that why not go for one more year. Next year looks good for the Bravos, why pass on that?

If he tries to rehab, more power to him. He started his career with a season ending injury, and he may be doomed to end his career with a season ending injury, and I think that fact may drive him to give rehab ashot before calling it quits. I don't think with all of his injury problems he's had over the past 2 years, oblique, groin, hamstring, and now knee, that he can ever fully recover to the point where he would be a valuable member of the team. Conrad has almost as many homers as Chipper and he's had 1/3 the at bats Chipper has. I think it's time Chipper hangs it up. Fantastic career, one of if not the best hitting 3B of all time, and a Hall of Famer no doubt.</p>
