After watching those 2 TD receptions last night, my mind went back to when we played UAB several years ago. I can’t remember the year, but we were a decent team. UAB had a receiver that was super fast (don’t recall his name) and none of our DBs could keep up with him. Several times, UAB was in mass protection and sent said receiver streaking down the field and gashed us. QB had all day to allow the receiver to get the separation he needed.

I’m no football expert like many of you.* But I feel like if we don’t take advantage of #0’s speed and ability to literally run down an overthrow ball, it would be a waste. Maybe we will. Just an observation.

Sure felt good to win a game against a quality opponent.

Lebby literally just did that. Last night. & 7 catches for nearly 100 yds against USM.

My Ole Miss friends at church told me the announcers were saying that Thompson was the fastest player in D1 football this year. Wow!....I did not know that as I barely knew who he was. I'm sure there are a lot of other very fast players like him, but I guess the announcers must have had some basis for that statement. Maybe speed in the 40 or 100 meters?

He's been (according to reporting, including by Bruce Feldman) clocked at 23.7mph.

You do realize he had 6 catches, averaging 22 yards and 2 TDs?
Yes, I realize this. Guess I’m just saying I hope we continue to leverage this unique talent we somehow acquired. Having the “fastest player in D1” in this era of the game at MSU pretty hard for me to believe.

I watched the game on TV and he sped up from 22mph to 23mph to make the overhead TD catch. He looks fast, but he is so under control while running he makes it look easy.
Watch closely - he actually gets tripped up getting past the DB before running away from him, then when he sees how far the ball is thrown he TAKES HIS EYES OFF THE BALL to put his head down to run faster, then looks up, finds the ball and catches it over his shoulder.

Really incredible. The ball looked overthrown by 5 yards. Can’t believe he ran under it and made that catch.

Osweiler and his cohort said a bunch of stuff with no basis in fact during the game. Thompson is obviously very fast, but it just seemed to be something to say and it got embellished.

I know some don't put as much weight on high school recruiting rankings after a player has transferred, but our top 3 wide receivers so far this year were all nationally ranked top 200 recruits. The potential/talent is definitely there but these players just didn't put up big numbers at their previous schools. Shapen in the preseason said these were the most talented WRs he has had as teammates and I don't think he was just blowing smoke

On3 National industry composite rankings out of high school:
Brenen Thompson - #101
Anthony Evans - #197
Ayden Williams - #82

Flemming said in his postgame podcast with SVP that Brennen was literally (radar timed) the fastest player in the nation. So it sounds like there was some basis in fact. Seems like it would be hard to prove unless you got everyone on the same field for a race.

Those dummies think anything over 18 mph is fast.
