Just sorting through NFL head coaching hires since 2003 (when Rooney Rule was implemented). Some numbers:

Total Number of HC Hires - 131
Total Number of HC's - 109
Total Number of Teams Hiring a HC - 31
Teams with the most HC hires - Raiders - 9, Browns - 8, 49ers - 7, Bills, Broncos, Jags - 6
Total Number of Minority Hires - 19
Total Number of Minority Re-Hires - 4
Total Number of Non-minority Re-Hires - 18
Total Number of Teams Who Hired Minority HCs - 8
Total Number of Teams Who Hired >1 Minority HC - 4
numbers don't lie

People do.

This is what drives me nuts about how people use statistics: statistics is a tool for observation, not cause and effect. It's a huge difference that too many people either don't understand, or ignore. Instead, people try to use statistics to show cause. End rant.

Are Jewish coaches underrepresented based on number of NFL players? I saw there were six Jewish players in the NFL at the beginning of the season.
OTOH are they under represented relative to ownership of NFL teams? 25% of which are Jewish

That's a great argument for when the numbers don't support your position. It's even believable when the disparity is fairly small, but that's not the case here- not at all.

What did you guys do when hiring someone for important/desirable positions? Didn't you go out and look for the best candidate, even if you had the so-called perfect candidate in mind? I know I always did and about half the time I found a better candidate through the interview process.

I remember three of us applying for the same position with the IRS during the last semester of our senior year of college. Only two of us were granted interviews. I was scheduled for a second interview and tentatively offered the position before my friend went on his first interview. I declined the offer since we decided to move back east. I fully understand that these were different circumstances, but I have to believe it happens all the time. Right?

What I stated is independent of any numbers. There's a difference between concluding there is a problem, which I happen to think there is, and what is causing the problem, which may have multiple and perfectly legal factors involved. That second part I have not seen any information presented one way or the other.

Well, for every open HC position since 2003, at least one minority candidate was interviewed. So, not lack of candidates.
