How realistic is it that we get Brian O’Connor? I think it would be a home run hire and I think he is the best coach out there. He’s a proven head coach with multiple trips to Omaha including back to back years 2023 and 2024. And back to back finals in 2014 and 2015 with him wining the Natty in 2015. No other coach resume compares to that! Could John Grisham have a say in getting him to come to Starkville?

He signed an extension last June taking him through 2031. I believe at 1.4 mill/yr & performance bonuses.

Not sure if he would come or not. Same with someone like Corbin. Once they've been intrenched into their community for years, it's hard to come to a small town environment like Starkvegas.

No, this is like Georgia getting Polk.
Not totally alike but yes, similar. Polk was more of a free spirit. Had no real family as I don't think he was ever married. Pretty much why he was married to MSU baseball most of his life. He worked 14-16 hr days a lot. Only took a couple weeks vacation every year to Las Vegas to play in poker tournaments, cards, etc. He was a big time recruiter back in the day. Brought in players from all over the U.S. Would he have adapted to today's NIL era....I'm pretty sure he would have.

How many times has the history of coaching searches taught us the early big names that seem too good to be true seem that way for a reason. I really hope I'm wrong, but O'Connor just seems too good to be true.
I agree it seems unlikely. However, I’m definitely going to make him tell me no.

I would love this, but I just don't see it happening. I expect him to retire from coaching as the Virginia head coach.

Alternate universe: Could we have hired him in 2008? That was before his first Omaha trip. He arguably had a better resume than Cohen.

Imagine if he had been our coach for the past 15 seasons.

He was leaving last year until they made him promises, now they backed out on it and he's looking again. It's his if he wants it IMO.

This seems like it's going to happen to me. Just have that feeling. Stars aligning.

He's our Augie Garrido.

We will see. It certainly makes sense.
If Selmon gets it done he will deserve a lot of credit in my book.

This board wont give selmon credit if he hires O’Connor. If we actually land him, the credit will go somewhere else. If he does not come here, then it’ll be message board lore for years that selmon screwed it up.

If he lands O'Connor he gets full credit. No blame if he doesn't (unless he takes a job at somewhere like UAB).
