The next 7 days are going to be unlike anything we’ve seen ever before in the Beverly, OakLawn, Mt. Greenwood corridor. I don’t care how many state titles MC has or who they are playing in the 7A semis, the buildup for this 8A semi is going to be like nothing prior. These are the kids from these neighborhoods, no linebackers from Indiana, quarterbacks from Dolton or kickers from Rosemont. Kids fromSt. Christina, St John Fisher, St Cajetan, St Catherine, Martyrs etc will decide where they are spending their next 4 years based on this game. We’ve never had a game with these implications in this area, Rice-Marist, the way the season began, it will end for one of them, for a trip to the 8A title game. Let’s get ready to rumble!

Congrats to Rice and Marist!! See that wasn’t hard, you can congratulate MC and the many kids from the area that play for them for all the schools you mentioned. Conjar, Syz, O’Brien and Livermore from CK huge games. Furlong from MHR, Cade Walsh from Fisher played with a broken hand, plus 3 more SJF guys on the roster. It’s a great day for the neighborhood go_rice, Congrats all around!!!!!

How many pages do the M's and O's take up in the Marist and BR directory? I remember seeing the Honor Roll of Marist once and it was pretty funny how many O's there were

First time post long time listener. This will be the biggest game at Marist probably since Marist v MC 1988. First time the teams met and MC won 7-0. You can squeeze 10k in that area if you want. Would love it to be Friday night and really amplify the attention.

And congratulations to the Caravan. Quite a performance against ESL. Hoping that Rice and MC make it to Champaign. But if Marist makes it, it’s not the worst thing in the world either. I’m going to hold my breath and say that I also hope Loyola makes it too.

Lots not forget about Richards' kids also. Easily could have ended up at BR, Marist or MC. One could argue best players in the state live within this bubble out here.

Happy I was able to help spin this from what I think was a shot at MC into a positive post for all the neighborhood kids playing this weekend!
I was just preemptively striking at the MC types that I know are going to check in saying this is no big deal because they have 12 championships & 100 semi appearances. As far as the 19th Ward & Oak Lawn are concerned, there is nothing like this. And I’m very concerned, that first game was a war, it’s hard to beat a good rival twice & because the IHSA is so screwed up we have to play it there. Gonna be quite a week, buckle up!

go_rice it looks like you’ve come a long way from your Marist is not a rival stance with this post.
Gotta give them props - they've made the step up, right? And although many kids from the neighborhoods do attend Rita, Carmel etc. These are the only 2 schools actually located in our neighborhood. This is gonna be as big as it gets around these parts.

There will be 8000 in attendance this weekend. Marist will be buzzing over this one - have home field advantage (to a degree) and will have the revenge factor. Very evenly matched. Should be a great game

I like Marist in this one. At home....and it's difficult to beat a very good team twice. Rice is better defensively, but I give the RedHawks the edge offensively.Should be a classic and an electric atmosphere to state the obvious.

Little Veterans Day story. 1992. I just got back from six months in Okinawa and was on leave. My father and I went to see MC vs JCA in 1992 home opener. MC was looking for revenge after Alstott stunned them in double time OT in 1991. They got it, they dominated JC 27-6, and the 6 was a mercy 6 at the end. Well 3 months later I find out my unit is getting deployed to Somila a month before Christmas after just getting back from Japan, plus I had no clue why we were going to Africa!!! Anyway, in the days before the internet and cell phones, we used pay phones and the US Postal service. I called home once a week, my Dad would keep me updated “Your Caravan is rolling” (He refereed to BR as “Your Crusaders” to my two brothers). Well I called home and to break the news Id be spending Christmas in Somalia and my Dad drops “ Your Caravan lost to JC in the semi finals” I thought he was screwing with me until I got this gut punch article in the mail.

I cannot even fathom having a talent like Donovan McNabb and only throwing the ball 13 times. Someone should really be in prison for that transgression. Mind boggling.
TE Matt Cushing had a great career at U of I and played a few years for the Steelers too as he had weapons to throw to.

That was my sophomore year at MC and easily the best team they had at that time. But that game was a Murphy’s law for MC. They had 3 turnovers that absolutely killed them. But hats off to Matt Larson and the JC defense

Not exactly a prison sentence but he was unceremoniously dismissed.
