Yeah...a players association for college players would be so peachy keen. How long would it be until the first strike? Hey ...through the power of social media...maybe we can be lucky and this organized chaos can spread to high schools and midget football. Just sayin'. It is a power struggle. Great that these student athletes are leaning how to gain leverage in a situation.
Ultimately what this comes down to is future profits.
Players are going to have to take money from these universities.
WVU sells a jersey with a players # on it. They never had to give that player ****. Now with the changes that player can earn some of that money.
But will have to take it out of the pocket of the university
The players dont have rights to their number. Only their name and likeness.
And it wouldn't be the University anyways, it is the entity who holds the license to sell the specific product....the university will just include whatever costs into the licensing fee. They wont be losing any money.
...good chance you see less player specific merchandise, simply because they wont want to pay the additional fee.
