Sha has challenged him to step up and he has. Now if some of the other guards would just defend the 3-point line, we might be ok.

Criminal coaching that Providence is 4-10 with that talent. If we just had one scorer/shooter to pair with Budd, we'd be dangerous.

When English gets fired, Sha should bring him on to coach offense. They are polar opposites that could balance each other's weaknesses. Lol

Likewise, If Providence had a PG and defender like Clark to pair with their shooters……

I'm starting to care less if Hines returns because even if he does, I'm not confident the present coach can even utilize him properly. But Clark on the other hand, WOW what a performance tonite. He's really turned it on and you can tell his confidence is peaking. That midrange jumper is LETHAL. And with his speed, he can basically get it whenever he wants it.

Clark will reach apex when he can score at 3 levels...needs another year

Clark got banged up pretty good in that game and I hope he is able to get his unform back on for the next game. He took a shot to the head (he actually ran into it) and I was thinking oh no concussion protocol might happen. He got beat up a few other times but like the energizer bunny he got back up and kept on going. He is a warrior. Too bad we don't have more like him on the team.

I think anyone could use mentoring from Barrett and Sha - the two best point guards this school ever produced. I can see Sha’s spin move in Clark now. I would love to see him learn how to shoot the three and foul shots like Dre. Clark would be impossible to defend one on one if he could hit the three at a good clip.

Really good point:

Barrett improved his 3% shooting from 30% to 38% by his senior season.

Makes all the difference in the world when you have to close out and respect that shot.
Also changes the way you defend the pick and roll. Can’t go under or play drop coverage either.

It’s just has a trickle down effect.
Andre’s assists were up but more importantly his 2 point FG % was above 50% for the only season he was a Pirate.

Budd in his last 5 games is (4-8) from 3.
he has also seen his 2 pt fg% increase to 56% over that stretch. Previously he was 43%.

I would also add that his drives to the rim have been more confident and aggressive through contact.

Sometimes it just take a moment to make the adjustment from the MAAC to BE play. The learning curve is different for everyone.

Learning curve? or is it he simply realizes he has to carry the offense load as no one around him can. So he is taking many more shots and not just dishing off for other people to score. He is being more aggressive because he has to be. He is not surrounded by 4 guys with great offensive skills as seen by our being last or close to last in all important offense categories.

That's just silly. He is a freshman, and it shows. He's got talent and tons of potential, but he has trouble getting position and finishing at the rim.

Only saw the second half, Providence defense not good. AJSM can score, Erheriene contributed, Clark at 5-10 was dominating.

Maybe you have a reading comprehension problem. I love Hines and he is one of my favorite players on the team. Actually, probably second to Clark, and in earlier posts I said securing Clark and Hines and then after that Simpkins are our biggest offseason priorities.

My point here is that as much as I love Hines, I don't see him being utilized effectively by our head coach. And if he can't utilize him properly this year, why would I have any confidence that he could next year? And if that's true, why would I want to pay him 2 million or whatever NIL he will command if we won't get what we should get out of it since he won't be utilized effectively?

I'd rather the 2 million go towards some shooters to surround Clark with. We haven't shown the ability to consistently set up Hines for any back to the basket post up plays and are completely unable to even make an entry pass to the post, as was clear not only all season but especially in the previous game. Is that clear enough?

Budd is everything to this team. Without him, we'd be in big trouble.

He leads the team in minutes and is on the floor for 75% of the time. In the 25% of the time he's on the bench, the drop-off is immense.

When he's on the floor our offensive efficiency is 113.6. When he's on the bench it is 99.5. (+14.1)
When he's on the floor our defensive efficiency is 98.3 When he's on the bench it is 104.7. (-6.4)
That's a Net total of +20.5 when he's in the game.

Only one other player has better than a Net of +4 and it's Fisher at +8. That's a bit of an outlier because our defense is a -9.9 when Fisher is in the game. He's not a great defender but he tends to do his job and he's on the floor in a lot of our full-court presses in the 2nd half which have been successful.
