or you should not be on here bitching.

$100 per year, or $8.33 per month for 12 months is not much.

That's $1 more than people pay for Mr. Bean and the Swan's Bull **** per year!

They do take monthly installments via bank draft. I just became a member this year. I started small, but plan on raising the bar every year.

to support MSU athletics, then it doesn't say much about you as any kind of a real fan.

if you can give to the BC, do it. If you don't want to - then don't do it. To classify who is a real fan or not is ridiculous.

I wish everyone gave to the BC but I am not going to stick them in a corner if they don't.

I actually just shuttered at reading 'real fan' on here.

So if someone buys M2M and buys a ton of MSU sports gear, but doesnt belong to the BC...they arent much of any kind of real fan? Please.
If someone buys the football and basketball packages to watch all the games and taps their MSU sports budget that way, then they arent much of any kind of real fan? Please.

There are tons of ways to support MSU athletics, and all require $$ to do so. How someone spends their money to support MSU really doesnt need to be judged.

If anyone has followed MSU sports closely thru this decade and for some reason enjoys doing so, then they are very much every kind of real fan. Thats dedication right there.

there are probably quite a few people that would be willing to give, but can't because of financial reasons.

But it's hard for me to believe that anyone who can't come up with $8.33/mo really gives that much of a **** about MSU athletics.

with that $100. Like someone said, there is more than one way to support the athletic arm of the university.

And don't get me wrong, I wish more people joined the Bulldog Club. It is only $8.33/month but I am not going to pull the real fan card on them if they don't.

I'd equate buying tickets, M2M subscriptions, etc. to being a member of the Bulldog Club. If you're doing any of that, you're supporting MSU athletics financially.

i was a graduate student for four years in starkville and bitched like crazy on here but sure as hell wasn't a member of the BC at the time. i went to as many football, basketball, and baseball games as I could. hell i even attended some volleyball and softball.

could i give more money to MSU now that I am in the workforce. hell yes I could. do I have other things that I want to spend it on like paying off student loans, other bills, and charity? of course. fandom does not equal money spent. otherwise those jokers who see a team rising and decide to jump the band wagon and go out and donate a grand are much better fans than me when i have the stomach to watch and support our teams even when they suck, which is all too often.

only killed two there this year. and by the way, the damn things are much heavier up here. i had a close call with a massive doe on a gravel road. she would have done the killing for once.

also...i finally bought a new bow and unfortunately i will like it much better than my BC contribution this coming fall

I don't see the reason behind giving a school money when you're already paying off (with interest) loans that you've taken out to give them money in the first place.

I fully plan on giving to the BC once my student loans are paid off. Until then, I think State will get by just fine with me spending money on tickets & fan gear for everyone I know who likes State.

And jmbeck did a great job helping me out. And not only did I give for this year, I went ahead and pledged for the upcoming year. I'm more excited for the 3 coaches and athetic director we have right now than I have ever been. Hell, one hasn't even coached a game yet. I can honestly say had it not been for Byrne, Cohen, and Mullen, I would still be sitting on the sidelines.

and... if you have rugrats running around the house, sign them up for the junior bulldog club.. $15 and they get a a **** ton of stuff. gives them a pretty good start for BC membership into the future, too.

Coach hadn't been back to campus, bought a ticket, etc., for over something like 5 years. Just because he wagered against State doesn't really make him a fan of Miss State. Plenty of folks go to school at State but actually are fans of another school. I don't see going to State as something that makes you a fan of State.

over joining the BC if you can't afford both or are unwilling to support both. A season ticket puts a butt in a seat. If your butt can't be there, you can give the ticket to another butt.

whenever they get the Student Bulldog Club on the ground running. My dad pays good money to the school every year on tuition and contributes if he can to the BC. Once I get my degree and career started I'll be in the position to contribute directly to the bulldog club.

If someone watches state sporting events regularly and wears the same faded maroon hat to work everyday then they will be considered a fan in my book. Hell, its easy for someone to wear a Florida, USC, Texas, or another thriving programs gear so why should we throw our loyal "Maroon is all that Matters" Tshirt wearing folks to the wolves.
Note: Nothing against the shirt just saying it was popular about 4 years ago.

they were talking about upper deck seats, not skyboxes. I might join the Bulldog Club so I can actually get basketball tickets after I graduate. $8.33 is very reasonable, but like OP4 said, I might choose to donate to more specific things such as a basketball practice facility instead of the general athletic fund.

But I am a firm believer in you earning your money and you spending your money. I, for instance, could give twice the donation to the BC but I choose to match my BC contribution with one to a local charity.. Even more if I quit giving to the Church and buying wrapping paper and candy around the office.

My goal isn't to maximize my BC contributions but that is definitely something I want to support at some level.

While I won't question whether someone is a fan or not based on their membership or lack thereof, I do think it's very important to be in the BC because of how the money used by the AD.

The no votes (25%) were most likely from students who are not yet alumni or people who did not actually attend State. Most of the 25% (myself) will be future BC members and will be happy to cut a check when the money starts to flow. I'll bet that at least 25% of people who post on here are students.

...for Mississippi State sports, don't give to the Bulldog Club, or give just enough to get that sticker for your car window, it is that simple.

We are, by several $Million, the lowest budget athletic department in the SEC. Look at the links someone posted. The most successful programs budgets at least double ours. If you want success, the old adage applies, "you get what you pay for." I give every dime I can afford. Between season tickets to all major sports and my Bulldog Club donations it amounts to right at 10% of my income. However, unlike many of you, I don't have a wife and kids to support, nor am I any kind of church patron. People should give what their hearts tell them to give and what their pocketbooks allow them to give. No one should feel coerced, but if you have the means and want successful athletic teams, then you should give.

people that don't given anything to the school but just complain about how things are going. If someone is buying tickets, giving to other funds, or things along those lines then I don't think he is calling them out as not being "real fans".

If you are giving in some fashion, go right ahead and complain. If you aren't then you need to start giving or quit complaining. If you are a current student you are exempt because you don't have money anyway.

Ok, I have been a long time reader of this message board and rarely ever post, but I just have to chime in.

If you want to know why I rarely post it is because I wanted so desperately to have the user name Coach34, but that was taken.

Anyways, I graduated State in 02. While at State, I went to almost every game on campus and many away games. I have since moved to Tulsa to work on a PhD/JD. In between my two tours in Iraq I have been to several dozen games (beat downs in Arkansas and even the occasional post season game.) I have NEVER missed listening the Randy and the B-Ball dogs in the last 5 years, even if it took my wife mailing me the CDs/DVDs weeks later. My 7 year-old boy decorated his room MSU (I'm so proud), my last tour in Iraq I flew an MSU flag each game day. I pay an excess of $300 a year to watch each basketball and football game pay per view because I live away from the FSN/Raycom area. I have an English Bulldog named Pavlov, and there are no less than 3 cowbells in my home. For the last 8 years I have not been a member of the Bulldog Club. I guess I am not a fan.

Recently the Ninja motivated me and I invested again. But the way I saw it was, why pay money to fill your tank up when you have 3 flat tires (JS, LT, and Coach Walrus.)

Isn't it something like less than 10,000 members? I'd hate the think MS State doesn't have more than 10,000 "real fans."

I'm sure I'll join in the next few years, but like others have said - I have higher priorities right now. If I've got $100 to donate, I prefer to donate it somewhere other than MS State athletics - either as offering at church, a charity like World Vision or Red Cross, or to the mechanical engineering dept. I feel like I support athletics enough with buying tickets, attending games (home & away), and buying merchandise.
