But look, only 27 by their offense

"Riley noted that while ASU racked up 497 total yards, 415 of which coming through the air, only 27 of its 36 points came from the offense,"

Grrr. I don't like that comment. "Only" 27 offense points at home against Arky State? Doesn't sound very ambitious to me. How about a shutout some day, is that not even a goal?

Pretty sure they don't have goals like shutouts and stuff. The goal is prolly something like 24 points at home, so they just missed it. I would guess it would be something like 31 on the road, since home field advantage is worth a TD normally.

Seriously, though, I see where you're coming from. The statement from Riley is a bit curious.

I have dated 100 women, but had sex with only 80. You see the only 80 is a comparison to the 100. As in only 80 and not 100. The 80 is not necessarily a comparison to what they goal or expectation is.

I wouldn't say a comment like "only" makes me happy. But, I realize he is a coach. As a coach I don't imagine that he is looking at them as being Ark St, rather, the team we needed to beat this week.

Defensive performance was not good enough Saturday night.

That said, Riley is facing a fan base of which a portion seemingly wants to jump off a bridge.

Lots of "bad" teams scored 20 something points on "good" teams Saturday night. "Only 27 points by the offense" is sort of code for "don't lose your minds yet" assuming a few things get cleaned up.

Pointing out 10 second half points, is another positive.

That's just Riley. It's what he is going to give you. While I personally would like to see something different (like less guffawing at the press conference and more ticked-off-ness), it's not who he is. He's on The Energy Bus. We all probably just need to accept it.

I agree. It was also an opening game with a lot of young defensive players. We may lose to Oregon next week. I just hope it is a competitive game. We will be getting better each week. People need to stop panicking

McBride weighs in

https://www.landof10.com/nebraska/f...bride-bob-diaco-think-theyre-going-get-better

“You start with a new system — first of all, people don’t understand that when you’ve got a new system, the seniors are freshmen,” McBride said of the debut for Diaco’s 3-man front. “Everybody’s not on the same page. You don’t have the same defense going [for years] where the older guys [know it].

“And they don’t have a lot of older guys. They have a lot of young kids. Like a lot of people say, between the first game and the second game is when you see a lot of improvement. They ran a lot of screens and they were missing some tackles, which happens.”

“[On film we found] that usually it turned out to be poor tackling and poor technique. It wasn’t the defense so much as it was just the fundamentals. And so that’s probably where they’re at a little bit right now. On television, you can’t see the secondary, but it did look like the corners were off a little bit.”

“The first thing with Nebraska fans, most of them are so loyal, it’s unbelievable. And then there’s that 5 percent that can’t handle it, and they want you fired or they want the secondary coach fired. It’s probably happened everywhere. And I was there 23 years and they were as good as people and as loyal a people as you have ever been around.”

A great view.

Luckily Oregon has a new defensive coordinator and is changing from a 4 man front to a 3 man front as well. Their defense should be experiencing the same challenges as we are. In addition they have a new offensive staff as well. They seem to be undergoing the same if not a larger "reboot" as we are.

The new defense shouldn't be a factor in this game as both programs are at the same disadvantage of being in the first year of a new system.

No reason for us not to win this game.

Likely the reason Diaco didn't speak with the press. Really wouldn't have mattered what he said, people would crush it.

The only thing that matters is that the defense rights itself. Not what anyone says.

If (I should say when) we beat Oregon I don't think anyone will be upset with how many yards or points we give up as long as we win. I think our view of the opponent had a lot to do with our displeasure (at least it did with me). If we beat Oregon I really won't care how many points we give up.

I could be wrong but I think Oregon's seniors ran a 3-4 before Hoke switched them to the 4-3.

Just keep getting better in all 3 phases. Ill take every W they can get. Cant say I'll be happy with blow outs or dog fights with lesser teams though.

You'd think a wife of a preacher would be into books like The Energy Bus. It has a very positive message.

No, because it is dumb. Here is their message on energy vampires. While it would be best to not let them on the bus at all, sometimes you are forced to deal with the Barfy's of the world. However, the staff will be OK if they keep visualizing that white light around themselves while talking to the press.

The first 4 bullets on that are fine. In fact, I would call them good practices to apply and follow. Totally agree with you on the fifth bullet point though.

If I could do the first 4 bullet points, I would be a totally different poster on this board.

This is from Judith Orloff. Not Jon Gordon, who is the author of The Energy Bus. It has been several years since I have read the book, but I am fairly certain the 5th bullet point is not discussed and that is an add in by Orloff. If it was discussed, I don't remember that at all

The book is slightly hokey, but the message is solid. And it isn't like Eichorst is the only one in athletics that embraces the book. Dabo Swiney, Richt, Mike Smith, Doc Rivers all have provided praise for the book. The aurthor has worked with Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder, Georgia, Clemson, Nebraska, Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and the Falcons.

For a pastors wife, you'd think you'd know better than to believe memes from the internet instead of actually doing your homework before you judge. But I suppose that is par for the course for you and your husband.

To each their own. However, it's not just slightly hokey. It's full blown hokey. Obviously there are lots of manifestations of this. I posted one. Diaco goes full blown hokey on his version in videos out there. In the end its the same message we get from new agers, Oprah, James Ray, and The Secret, name it and claim it preachers, etc. It is self-absorbed nonsense that acts as though there is a special mind-based "energy" that we can tap into that will make us better than others.

Charlatanism at It's finest.

P.S. Lest you think this is off topic it is why Riley makes the kind of statements we see above or Diaco will say his team's play was tremendous when it wasn't. If you read the UCONN board it is very clear what is happening.

Oh, I trust me I get it. We all are going to have faith in something. However, at some point there is truth and not truth. In my opinion, the "name it claim it" / "think it become it" view of the world is hogwash. Others are free to say the same thing about my faith.

Please look at this way for a moment Tom. Except for the white light thing, these are all things adults would tell you as a kid, it just might be phrased differently.

It's just a way for someone to make money off of stuff my grandma told me for free.
