Both teams are 2-0. Looking at N.C. Preps power rankings Butler is at #3 and Myers Park at #9. I think this has the making of a good game. Any thoughts or predictions. I will go with Butler but wouldn’t be surprised It would end up being a close game.

Tough to get a read on MP, as they have only played Garinger and Rocky River. Butler's dominating of Porter Ridge was impressive. But this has developed into a nice little rivalry so should be fun on what looks to be a nice night for football.

I am a Butler guy, although they had “down” years the last few years, I think the defense has been good. What made Butler special was their QB play which hasn’t been special since Cheek graduated which makes the offense predictable. Unless that has changed or the offense has been retooled I think Butler will be what they were the last couple of years, good but not great.
After Cheek it was Peters at QB. I think Metzgar is better than Peters. Also, I think Butler is better at every position group in comparison to last season. Before the year I thought OL was the only group I thought they lost anything significant from last season, but that group has seemed to recover nicely. Butler should be dangerous for the foreseeable future..Hales has some good talent and the staff is somewhat loaded now like how it was 10 years or so ago
You may be right on Butler being a good team but not great as of yet. I do stand by my comment on Metzgar being better than Peters. Peters is a better pure athlete (I believe he is a QB at Shaw U now)...but I would still choose Metzgar if I had to pick between those 2 at the HS level. The offense really struggled at times with Peters at QB.
Myers Park did surprise me though. And I would call this a toss up if they played again. Butler’s personnel usage on defense is questionable to me but hey I’m not the coach

I guess the point is Peters and Metzger are not Cheek and Ratliff Williams. They are a running team that don’t have the talent like some of the old Mallard Creek teams who can keep running and the defense can’t stop them. In other words against inferior teams the offense will work. Against teams like Mallard Creek, Vance, MP, Hough with equal or better talent they will struggle. Once Butler put in the WR in the backfield to play QB to do the run option plays, its never a good sign.
Given that the offense turned the ball over a couple of times Butler’s defense played pretty well outside of the long TD reception from MP. I see MP getting better, Butler will be good but not great but they are not beating the teams I mentioned above.
With the uncertainty with California High School Football. Myers Park got 5 new players that showed up from Cali. Just in time for Butler. "See the guys who were making plays" They made a difference
