The season suspension was too harsh from the beginning considering what he did.

And to me, the fact that he stayed on the team and kept working with the scout team knowing that he had no eligibility after the suspension was lifted shows that he learned his lesson.

If he was purely a selfish jerk, he'd have quit the team since his playing career was basically over.

I'm in the minority group that defended him for throwing that punch. However, I did not condone his actions afterward. His suspension resulted from all of his actions that night in addition to a prior history of problems.

They should stand by the original punishment. If I recall correctly, he did not lose his scholarship. He is a senior and has the opportunity to earn a free degree from a quality institution.

This is very different from Michael Vick in that the everyone has the right to earn a living based on whatever skill-set they have. Vick is a piece of ****, but if somebody wants to pay him to play football, he should be able to. Blount, on the other hand, is an amateur college football player. That is a privilege. He acted like an ***, but lost that privilege. He should consider himself lucky that he still has the opportunity at a free education. Many people would kill for that.

He never should have been suspended for the whole season. He and the guy from Boise State should have both been suspended for one game and that's it.

I said it should have been half the year from the beginning, and it looks like that's what it's going to be. The year long deal was a heat of the moment, let's make ourselves look tough decison handed down from the president of the university. Now that cooler heads have prevailed, they've realized how harsh that was it seems.

I didn't realize the guy from Boise State taunted hm the way he did. It looked like Blount was walking off minding his own business until blue turf boy popped off. I say reinstate after 6 games if he is truly doing the things asked of him.

Lots of players have punched people. Usually they only get one game.

I had no idea he came from East Mississippi CC.

Croom must not have thought he was a character guy.

a couple game suspension would be plenty. But he went after fans in the stands afterwards too. I don't care how sorry he says he is now, you just can't have that.

He was already on his second chance when he jacked a guy in the jaw on National TV. That being said, I leave it up to his coach. If they really think he has done enough to deserve to come back who am I to piss on that from thousands of miles away?

fighting someone from the other team after a game is one thing. if that was it i would have said his punishment was too harsh in the first place.

but going after the fans was enough to have him banned for good.

hit a football player ... seems legal cuss fans and jump at them... like most athletes don't flip off said fans at least once in there life

and i have never been present when someone else did it. i have never even seen it happen live on TV. i had to watch replays and when i watched replays there have only been a few incidents that come to mind of a player going after fans that i can remember. all of that adds up to the fact that this is rare and should be treated as such. cut him for the year so that it continues to send the message that fans will taunt you and you should not try to fight them.

edit: of course i have talked smack to other team's players from the stands. it is because i am protected from them jumping up there to try to beat my *** (wouldn't have to try very hard).

the suspension was too long. Three games would have been enough.

Although Blount was the actually the first guy to say "We owe them an *** whoopin' ", so you could make the case that he actually instigated the incident.

At any rate, it's ridiculous to suspend just Blount and not do anything to the other guy. The thing with the fans was heat of the moment type stuff. Not condoning it, but I can understand why it happened.

So, I say let him play.

The only reason he stayed on the team is to get all the workouts he can before the combine. Albeit, his draft chances are pretty much flushed down the ******* but they would be even worse if he was to leave and not have any sort of football work until the combine... but he would be dumb to leave a free degree on the table anyway

he actually had to be held back from barreling into the stands after the fans. have you watched the video or are you just talking out of your ***?

You can't really say it's ridiculous to suspend one guy and not the other when it's 2 different institutions handling this. If the NCAA was mandating the suspensions I would agree.

I know he made poor decisions and it looked bad for ncaaf. For what he actually did... Which was punch a guy and be held back and escorted to the locker room... Does deserve a year you can hold him accountable ..on intent... Or what might have happen... You don't know he was going IN the stands

While it was happening.

Some fans need to be knocked on their asses too. I've never understood how so-called "fans" think they can say or do whatever they want to players. 17 those "fans".

The guy lost his cool. If he hadn't been provoked, he probably would have gone on to the locker room without bothering anybody. A one-game suspension was more than enough.

Petersen should have suspended the player for causing/retaliating and causing a near riot. I don't know why he didn't.
