I think it was obvious that you need to have coaches in place given that it is recruiting season. So, even if there had not been a melt down, we 'd have hurried. I think we need to really go for "recruiter" at the LB spot, or whatever coaching spot we need to fill right now.

It just didn't seem like they were going to branch to far off looking for a DC. It only seemed logical when we got both.

If the Co-coordinator didn't get the job, in my mind there was a good chance he might try to leave too, meaning you would be down both co-coordinators. I think naming them as co in the beginning backed Mullen into a corner of having to hire the one who stayed longer as DC.

The sad part is if the Defense stays as good or improves his *** will be gone next year.

I think the decision to move Wilson up to DC when Manny left was probably made when they were hired. I think Mullen knew Manny probably wouldn't be here more than a couple of years.

Ellis Johnson hadgood defenses for 4 years before he left. Diaz wouldn't have left for many other jobs, it just happened that Texas needed a DC and wanted him. Jobs like that one don't open up every year. But even if Wilson had a defense as good as or better than this year's and did leave, why would that be so sad? That wouldmean we give up less than 19.8 points per game next fall and we'd be a very attractive place for any good young DCto want to coach.

The sad part is he could leave not having a good defense. You see the turmoil that is going on now due to Diaz leaving and talk about how Ole Miss is using that to their advantage. Hell if it happens again it will bestronger argumentthe next time could start to stick.

He put hishouse up for sale months ago to "move closer to town". There are rumors he didn't care for the "co-DC" title. There are only three or four programs he would have left for.

I've got a feeling those three or four are 1.) A historically dominant program, 2.) A perennial top 10, 3.) Top4 in the SEC (Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida), 4.) Any program that gives a lot more money.

Yes, it could be true. Hemay have had his Florida State/Texas/USC/Ohio State wish list. God could have sent an angel down to touch Mack Brown and scribble "DIAZ" on his dry erase board too, as Diaz told us God gave him this job. But I don't think that was the case. I think Diaz would have left for the first "better" opportunity. Luckily for him, the first was a damned good one.

I'll believe Texas was one of the "3 or 4" as soon as someone convinces me that Torbush left because he wanted to work under Turner Gil.

If you've still got our Under the Lights episode on DVR, go back and watch the exchange in Mullen's office between Mullen, Diaz, and Wilson. That doesn't look like a man "Hey, I'm an offensive guy, I'll turn everything defenseover to this guy out of the Sun Belt".

I'm concerned because of how this affects our recruiting, but that's it. I think we'll be fine otherwise.
