Buy/Sell: Anything less than a top 25 recruiting class is a failure this year

With the total meltdown up north, we should be able to pick up the larger share of good MS talent. Buy.

With the dumpster fire that isOle Miss right now, we should easily beat them out for the top talent in Mississippi. If not, then I will be severely disappointed. But with the stellar season last year and probably (crosses fingers) another bowl this year, we should be in ok shape with most of the home grown talent.

Is that even a realistic possibility with this class based on who is already commited.

Bama, LSU, and UT will have a say in how we finish up.

I would be pretty surprised if most, if not all, of our 2 stars didn't made it to 3 after all of the all star games. So that gives us a very solid base... Would require a few big names to be in the last few though.

something doled out in small quantities ..... of course all those singnees of OM last year could have put 2 and 2 together and seen the writing on the wall but that's just not the way most of these guys think... or what theyare concerned with --- what Ithink will help is a continuedbeatdown of OMof a stretch of 4 or 5 years ... that kinda puts MSU in their heads in high school as being the premier program in Miss.

We should be. We've beaten Ole Miss 4 of the last six times. What about our program right now doesn't scream better than Ole Miss?

just saying this is how we will improve recruiting ... not just because OM has trouble & turmoil going on right now ... yeah, I'll admit we might get a few that would have gone to OM , but over the long haul, these problems probably wont help us out much in recriuting next year or afterwards

just because Ole Miss's situation will not really affect our recruiting rankings much. Perhaps we get a player or two that was still undecided but most of the big names we're after we're trying to pull those guys away from Bama, Tenn, and LSU. The rest of our class is pretty full. Now we may retract a few schollys to make room for a better decommit or something. Although I have a hard time seeing Dan do that.

We honestly aren't even head to head for that many guys this year with them.

but not finishing in the top 25 of the real polls next year would be a bit disappointing.

We were not competing with UM this year. They've got two guys from MS committed - both from South Panola. Nutt was not going to get anybody from MS that we wanted. I believe we've gotten everybody from MS that we wanted not named Evans, Ward, Liggins,Alford, or Brown.None of them were going to sign withNutt.

But I still buy that we should have a top 25 class. Coming off a 9 win season, gator bowl victory, and having ourin staterival in the gutter-Mullen should be able to put togetheragreat class. If he can't pull Evans or Ward this year, I don't know if he'll ever be able to sign the top MS prospects. I realize we're competing with Bama / LSU but that didn't stop UM from signing Brassell, Johnson, & Moncrief last year.

I see 4, maybe 5 teams that we could leap frog with a very strong finish. However, there are the same amount of teams behind us that could easily jump ahead of us once they fill out their classes. My guess is that we'll end up around #30 and for the record, I'm talking about Scout rankings. We're not even in the Top 50 on Rivals.

On topic, I guess I'll push. Not finishing in the Top 25 is disappointing, but not a complete failure. I think it's apparent that beating OM a couple years straight is not going to suddenly have everyone running to come play for State. It's a start but we've got to start consistently winning some of these other conference games before anyone is really going to notice. We've had several opportunities this year and we've blown them all. Here's hoping that Mullen can pull a rabbit out of a hat before the season's over.

We aren't even in the top fifty, yet UM is. WTF is that about? I mean, I get that we are doing better with Mississippi talent than they are this year, but still....

for us coming into the season but at this point I don't see how there is any chance that we will. Right now its starting to look doubtful that we will end up with any of the 5 you listed (Evans, Ward, Liggins, Alford or Brown). Guess we might get one or two if Bama and LSU run out of schollys but I'm not holding my breath on any of them. All I can say is that I hope that all the sleepers we currently have in this class actually wake up.

Why should we be in the top 25? I really want the recruiting gurus to tell me what makes Starkville a top 25 destination for recroots. A coach "on the rise" and in the SEC is it.<div>
</div><div>So far we haveunderachieved while our conference recruiting rivals have succeeded (minus UM of course). We have probably been the biggestdisappointmentin the SEC. (Once again, I'm not counting UM because most people assumed they were going to suck.)</div><div>
</div><div>Not to mention this isn't a banner year for Mississippi recruits. Fact of the matter is we are an underachieving, lower tier SEC team without a winning tradition located in a small Mississippi town. </div>

IF, and this is a big if, we can close with the following, it will be, without question a top 25 class (according to Scout)and not dependent on the Bears at all (competition in parentheses):

Quay Evans - 5 star (Bama, but it is looking like they will not have room for him or have already moved on)
Beniquez Brown - 4 star (UT, but we have his cousin committed)
Richie Brown - 4 star (LSU, but the longer he waits, I think the better it is for us)
Brandon Hill - 3 star (Bama, but they may not have room for him)
Channing Ward - 5 star (Bama, this one is a hard one to figure out)

Throw in a couple of JUCOs, trim the existing commitment list down for grade issues and lets be done with it. Now, I am not saying we end up with all of these guys; I am simply pointing out the ones we have a shot with and who the competition is right now.

We should be benefitting more from the 25 limit signing rule rather than the fact that Ole Miss is in shambles. Much of our success in recruiting this year is going to be dependent on who LSU and Bama decide to take.

And by the way, Rivals recruiting rankings for football is a damn joke.

If you honestly believe this then you will be shocked come February. The question State fans need to be asking is "if we can't land the big time MS recruits this year, how can we ever expect to?"

You can make yourself feel better by typing that BS if you want to, but it only shows that you have no contacts within the recruiting world. Prepare to be unpleasantly surprised, that is IF you really believe what you typed.
