While I don't know if there is a connection between the two, there has been speculation that Sly might join Singletary's staff if he got the permanent gig for a while now. I think it was mentioned even before the "resignation."

The WCO family is a tight one and Croom is in it. Isn't Bill Walsh still in the front office over there?

but if he gets an offer at the local car wash, he should take it. They could wash the cars the right way.

Please Lord dont let him go to another team I like.

at least he will be doing something that he is good at- coaching RB's, and not calling plays. I doubt Singletary makes him the OC.

If he does, I guarantee you the Niners will be begging Doug Flutie to come out of retirement.

And all four were aGAINst some pretty mediocre teams. Buffalo, the New York Bretts, St Louis and the Deadskins.

Singletary reminds me of an NFL version of Croom. They both stand for integrity, take a stubborn, no nonsense "Old School" approach and make ignorant, often indecipreable statements to the media (see the Vernon Davis incident where he said he would rather play with 10 men). I can't imagine a 49er fan actually being exicted about having Singletary as their coach. I've heard the last several years about the 49ers improvement during the year, how next year will be the year they return to glory, and each year, they grace us with their usual 7-9 record. This year is similar to the last several and if Singletary hires a bunch of Crooms, Singletary will be run out on a rail. Like I said, I see Singletary as the Croom of the NFL and we know how NCAA Croom turned out.
