Buy. Only way it gets broken is if lower echelon DI program produces a shotblocker of Varnado's caliber. I say that because, the kid will basically have to be a starter for 4 years and yet not be good enough to be drafted. I don't think any player at a more prominent school would be in a position to fulfill both of those aspects.

Records are meant to be broken.

A decent shot blocker will end up going to a small school where in an attempt to garner some national attention for the school, the school's statistician and media relations crew will be very liberal with what constitutes a block.

Case in point, a few years back, the guy from Southern University had a un-human amount of stolen bases (over 2 a game average or something like that). Now, he was a good player in all, as he was drafted pretty high, but an SID at LSU told me a story about him. He said that Southern would call a passed ball/wild pitch a stolen base if he advanced. Even went as far as when they played LSU in Baton Rouge, and LSU's official scorer would deem it a passed ball, the SU guy would go back and change it to a stolen base before sending the stats to the SWAC, who sent them to the NCAA.

That's how I think it would be broken.

Hell, the guy to break the record might be at Marshall right now. Going into last night JV and Marshall freshman Hassan Whiteside had both played in 16 games and Whiteside was averaging more blocks a game. Assuming this guy doesn't get hurt, he'll be way ahead of JV's pace after their respective freshman seasons. As someone said, records are made to be broken.

I don't know anything about the guy you are talking about. I just think JV's mix of being awesome, yet not NBA awesome is pretty rare.

He's still averaging more after last night. Whiteside picked up his own triple double two nights ago with 10 blocks. He's on pace to pretty much double JV's freshman block total. That guy is a phenom, and the comparable quality of opposition he faces may mean that he claims the block title for the year. The good news for JV is that Whiteside is already predicted to be the 2nd overall pick in 2011. I don't think he'll be around long enough to claim the career record.

Anyone that is good enough to break it will be long gone before they have enough time to break it. Jarvis is the exception to the rule.

someone introduces Jarvis to Chanel Mokango (MSU WBB senior). She's currently #5 in the SEC in blocked shots. If it works out, J.V., Jr. will break Jarvis' record for sure!

Just don't tell Riek I said to introduce them.
