I'm buing. It's kind of been a peeve of mine for a decade or so now, but it's getting worse lately. Bama's got two #4s, USC had two #5s before Garcia got kicked off. But now you've got teams like us with two kickers wearing #40, and Georgia where they have a #1 playing RB and another #1 playing DB. Except the one that plays DB also sometimes plays RB. Seems to me that's a very unfair advantage to an offense when the defense can't even tell who the RB is by looking at his number.

Just look at the shoes. I don't pay any attention to the #. Couldn't tell you what number 95% of our players wear.

..I realize the NCAA is a worthless & corrupt entity, but if they have yet to make it illegal for the same number to be worn by more than one player, then I am beginning to better understand the whole "Auburn is cleared of any improprieties" thing.

Like Dan says, numbers are scarce. The more numbers we honor by not wearing, the more you're going to see duplicates.

There's 99 of them (110 if you make your walkons wear numbers like 0,00, 01, etc.) and you've only got 85 scholarships (that are often not all used). If that's not enough, let a few walkons wear numbers in the 100s. It's just an annoyance when Bama has a #4 on offense and a #4 on defense. But when Georgia has a #1 at tailback and the defense can't immediately tell which one is in the game, it affects play.</p>

Go to the MState athletic website and look at the roster. Every number is assigned except 21 & 36. According to the site, with 97 numbers assigned, we still have 8 numbers shared by 2 different players. That does not include the # 40 because Egan shows wearing 53.

Dan also said another reason was a little trickery, which is the real reason. As long as 2 walkons don't dress for the same game, there's no problem at all with them sharing numbers. Or even if they did both dress, but only 1 played. The fact is, no team has more than about 50-60 players that are going to see much playing time and there's no reason they can't all have different numbers.

Anyone else notice that after a timeout, Bama left 13 players in on D, then when they saw who we went with out of the timeout, ran off the 2 they didnt want. How is that not illegal substitution?

I also kind of like the fact that all kickers should have the same number as if all punters.
