Buy/Sell. Newton not committing this weekend is a bad sign.

I say buy. We really need this guy, and I imagine we have thrown everything we have at him, yet here we stand waiting on a press conference from a JuCo QB. Sweet.

it doesnt matter till signing time. Committments mean nothing. He obviously enjoyed his visit. They have stated he wasnt announcing before his season was over for months now. If he takes another visit- so what?

but damn I hope we are all over him until Dec. 15. What worries me is seeing Oklahoma in the picture.

This is why I'm so reluctant to jump on his bandwagon. I admit he would be a huge get and will be a starter for two years over TR (although I still maintain they will use TR on about 20-30% of drives over the next two years if CN comes). However, if you read Veazey's story on it, you should be concerned. I think what it boils down to is Cam wants to come here, Daddy doesn't want him to. Daddy is trying to figure out the best way to get him to the NFL with a huge contract. Can't say I blame him. I get the feeling that Daddy is going to be a very hard sell when it comes to MSU. He's still throwing out big names like Oklahoma...i.e. fishing for better offers for his son.

how many QBs has MSU sent to the NFL? We just have to sell the fact that Mullen has sent QBs to the league, even when he was at Utah. Mullen has to sell himself over our history.

Does he really fit in as well at those other schools? UNC? Butch Davis is a good coach, but UNC can't beat a poor NC State team. 3 straight for the Wolfpack. Does UNC football really excite anyone?

Oklahoma could be a good fit, but is he really going to go there and beat out Landry Jones? After reading this hype machine, I'd have a hard time believing that will happen. Some person in the comments of that story is even touting true freshman Blake Bell will be their starter next year. That's an awful lot of competition, but who knows what will happen. http://www.crimsonandcreammachine.com/2009/11/5/1118389/is-landry-jones-the-best

If he comes in and produces at MSU or wherever, his path to the pros will be the same, regardless.

I think he fits in best here will Mullen. Jones did look bad at times this year but he knows the playbook and they are not just going to hand the job like I think he will get here. What scares me is the whole thing about what is going to prepare him best for the NFL talk. Its seems like he wants the big time exposure but the SEC has that plus the TV contract with ESPN. I just hope he is bought into Mullen's offense and thinks he can come here and win. We will see come Dec. 15.

Big time exposure. A chance to win. A chance to shine. He wants the same thing we want. I would love to see him do all of that. And Tyler Russell follow in his footsteps to do the same thing.

I honestly believe he can achieve his goals here.

We'll see what decision they make on Dec. 15.

Parent making statements that sound more like sports agent talk than a parent. Also claims to be pondering decisions which could easily have been made buy now with information that has been available for weeks or months.

Sounds like either attention whoring or a holdout for a better offer. I'd bet on the latter.

Let me get this straight:

Their son is a talented athlete with the potential to be a professional athlete. If they look for the best opportunity to help their son become a professional athlete, then they are attention whores?

Please. You can't be serious.

Thank God none of you people recruit for us.

I don't have a problem with them looking. I also don't have a problem with them taking their time to make a decision. I think Cam can and will achieve his goals here, but I fully understand his parent's desire to make the best decision. I would do the same for my child.

entirely sure it's a bad sign. I finally watched the replay last night and I'm pretty sure the camera caught Cam ringing his cowbell right before our first touchdown drive. He appeared to be having a good time. I still think we get him but I obviously wish he wouldn't take any more visits.

He did seem right at home here over the weekend. But the trip to OU worries me. I don't blame a kid for soaking up all the attention and taking a few good trips, but OU and their tradition might be too good to pass up.

I could be wrong on this, but I believe the schools left for Newton are Kansas, Oklahoma, MSU, and Tennessee(just included UT since he was a recruit but I believe they dropped him a while back.) With Mangino probably NOT back at Kansas and Weiss out at ND, and Stoops possibly leaving/talking to ND, I feel pretty good about our position with him. He has until Dec. 15th to decide, and Newton has stated he will take a trip to OU but they haven't even offered yet. He said he might go on one more official visit after OU.

His dad and him seem very calculated in their next decision, and I just don't see him going somewhere where a current head coach might not be come spring due to firing or leaving for another school. Coaching changes won't shake out until January, so I will be put on my maroon glasses and say we are the team to beat for his sig.

Now watch him "shock the world" and sign with UT.

...he wants two things: 1) Immediate playing time and 2) Exposure.

He can get playing time and State and some exposure if the team is successful. He knows that much of it depends on his supporting cast. If he can get playing time at Oklahoma, he'll have a much better team around him and get more exposure. Oklahoma is who I am worried about, and i have no idea of their depth chart other than Bradford's replacement played a good bit this year.

OU is the only offer the dad is fishing for. already said it, but i'll say it again...nothing wrong with it if that's the case. I just think it's not a great sign for us that his dad is so (seemingly) reluctant to let him come here. i am pretty sure he would have already committed if it was totally up to him. parents make me nervous.

For the longest I had heard it was just us and TN..but the Auburn news I heard Saturday is a concern. I'm sure Malzahn would love to have him. Word is Newton wants to come to State..but his dad is "weighing his options."

I can honestly say I have not heard his name mentioned here one time. Like State, Auburn signed a high-profile QB last year. Unlike State, there is little doubt that Tyrik Rollison fits what Malzahn wants to do with his offense.
