Strong Buy here.

The reason why I post this is because there are some people that think he will have to outwork Augustus to get the 4 spot. I think he starts at the 4 and Kodi plays some minutes at the 4 and 3. It will make Augustus better as well.

.....is that has been inconsistently applied over the past 12 years.

Sure, Sidney is different from most of the freshmen we have had in the past 12 year, but he is just like them in that he is a freshman, and when faced with options in the past, Rick has RARELY started freshmen.

Stans is notorious for making freshman know they have to earn their place so unless Sidney shows a very high energy level and works hard on defense I would expect him to come off the bench at first.

I'd guess we start the year with this: Bost, Stewart, Ravern, Kodi, Jarvis

If Sidney works hard defensively and does well in the early games I think he'll be starting by game 8

I don't think work ethic is going to be a problem with this kid. He and his Dad are very much committed to doing whatever it takes to get him to the next level, and not at a discount.

..last year. I cant remember if he started in the 1st game though.
Dee started at point guard at the beginning of the season even in the two exhibition games we had before the regular season.

When Stans has had freshmens who were ready to play, he has played them (see Dee Bost this year as just the most recent example). Sidney will be a starter the day he sets foot on campus.

you are right, though, as with gordon and bost, there weren't any other real options at PG (i think the same may have been true with zimmerman). on the other hand, stans has RARELY had a freshman as talented as sidney will be when he sets foot on campus - and that's why i would buy.

He's the most similar player I can think of to Sidney. A big, bulky, finesse player who was a McDonald's All-American and top 10-15 type of recruit. He came off the bench and averaged something like 16 minutes his freshman year. I think Sidney will play more than Austin did and maybe start before SEC play, due to his NBA potential, but still. I see Stansbury trying to make a point. He is one of the most stubborn people on the planet.

But only if Sidney works at it and earns it. The team will implode if Sidney comes in and loafs while getting a starting spot. Stansbury has shown that he will start a player regardless of his age if he works hard enough. I just wonder where Romero Osby and Ravern Johnson fit into all this now. Ravern better pick up his D big time.

This is a situation that will make everyone on our team step their game up because they know Sidney will take their minutes if they don't. Augustus should step up his game and I think that will be very beneficial.

I'm trying to be optimistic, but I can't shake the feeling that this kid never plays a game for MSU. So right now, I'm selling.

gonna step pout on a limb and predict Varnado doesnt return...and then Sidney and Augustus both start for us

And looking back- Stans has never started a true Freshman when he has had options- Bost and Gordon had to start
