Buy/Sell: Stomping on the 'G' was classless

According to post game quotes, Georgia players were so mad that they were throwing chairs in the locker room before the game. Seems like Mullen's attempt to fire up our players backfired hard.

Personally, if a team did that to us, I'd instantly hate them for a long time.

Our team not only lacks the ability to get it done during the game, they lose the pregame as well.

but the point is in the past they had the team and the talent to get away with things like that. Us, not so much.

then they are just plain stupid. That kind of garbage fires up the home team a whole heck of a lot more than it does yourself. Probably why we down 14-0 before the game even got started good. I would like to think the lengthy post-game discussion between Mullen and Richt at midfield was Mullen apologizing for our team's classless pre-game actions.

I'd be disappointed if Mullen doesn't have some sort of punishment for the Einstein who thought that'd be smart. We're trying to lose that thug mentality that we earned from the late 90's I thought.
Let our playing be our smack talk, but that's too old school and disciplined for today's youth.

and that's according to Mullen, the referee and Richt.

BTW, I used to love it when Smoot and Cooper did that ****.

At the end of warmups, we lined up and punted to the 50 just like we do EVERY game. The tam comes together and rallies around the Guy who catches the punt. That's all that happened. Georgia charged our guys like a bunch of thugs.

I suppose we should have all run to the sidelines to avoid having our own fans call us classless and stupid.

My observation from the nosebleeds was that the punt that was intended to wrap up the warmups sailed over the "receivers" head and ended up at the UGA 30. Our team was chasing down the ball and stopped at the 50 so we wouldn't do the pre-game celebration on their side. It just so happened we ended up on the G.

That said, it was boneheaded to end the warmups with a punt-celebration on the road. It's way too likely you end up pumping yourselves up on the hosting team's mid field logo (especially with a 15 mph tailwind). I don't blame UGA for responding the way they did even if our intentions were innocent. I would hope we would have done the same had the situation been reversed.

We weren't thugging it up - it was a stupid mistake. Learn and move on.

.. those that start these type of rumors never bother to check to see if they're actually true, and never care to correct them when they're false.<div>
</div><div>And, whomever thought that Mullen would actually ENCOURAGE his team to do it before the game.... really? If it had ACTUALLY been intentional, obviously he's not enough of a prick to tell his players to do that.</div><div>
</div><div>Guess what: Richt didn't "allow" his players to do it at Vandy, either. They just did it. He actually ran out there and started pushing and shoving them off, and made several apologies to Vandy and the media for it. He was rightly embarrassed.</div>

and that's the way the television broadcast depicted it in the pregame broadcast.

They cut to the titty fight on the G with all of our team already there jumping up and down jawwing at the Georgia team that was swarming in, then cut to Mullen laughing on the sideline.

And I did ask "Did Mullen direct the titty fight?". That was a bother to check and see what caused it and no one gave an explanation until today.

So if you want to get pissed at someone, get pissed at the SEC network.

I'm sitting there watching the broadcast and they cut to the team jumping up and down and then the UGA team running up. Another great example of how tv loves to edit things to make it seem more than it was.
I guess if you didn't watch what the tv showed, then you shouldn't call us classless***

He punted from the back of the endzone and the ball traveled to the opposite 35 yardline. Of course, he had a hell of a tailwind.

This past weekend I attended a Division 1 FCS football game in the Missouri Valley Conference--my son is being recruited as a student-athlete at the lower Division 1 ranks in a non-contact sport. Anyway, before the game, both teams walked to the center of the field in a long line and shook hands with one other player on the opposing team in the center of the field, before heading back to each team's respective sideline. This is something they do in the entire conference before every football game as a show of good sportsmanship.<div>
</div><div>My wife and I immediately thought of the incident earlier in the day at Athens. Thugs, versus class. The lines are clear.

I think that is one reason for the problem with the first punt that only went 37 yards and was returned for 30. If you looked to the top of the stadium the winds were blowing really really hard on the flags, but just at the top of the goal posts there looked to be no wind at all on those small flags. I think we should have rugby kicked it from the east end zone and then booted it up high from the west endzone.

I know this is a bit off-topic but it seemed a good time to throw that in there since the subject here was the pregame punt that Swedenberg destroyed.

We kicked off with the wind at our backs one time during the game. It didn't go past the 10 yard line. I know our kickoff guy isn't that strong, but kicking it to the 10 with a 15-20 mph tail wind is inexcusable. You should be kicking it through the uprights with that kind of help.
