Mullen and the team better be ready, I know the crowd will be.
This is our first real test of the season, if we lose this one this team might not recover mentally.
7-0 is in our sights, pull the damn trigger Dawgs.......

Buy. We need to show that we are indeed making the jump from bottom tier to mid tier on our way to top tier.

Sell.....

A big game for sure. But lose and we are still very likely going bowling, which is the ultimate goal every year.

this game was a "must win" for Dooley before the season started...

and that included a win over NC St.

6-6 is a successful season for MSU.

While I do agree with this statement overall- some teams have higher expectations than others. This team is one of those. Anything less than 8 wins would be disappointing with this group.

Sell.
By definition it's not a must win. However, it's absolutely one we need to win for Dan to show he can take us to the next level.

Not a must win, but a good indication where we are.

Win and you have to like our chances against A&M, Arkansas, and UM. Lose and you have to think A&M is a toss up at best, and hope that Arkansas doesn't figure **** out by the time we play them.

That said, with the way the West has turned out and our schedule, we basically have 8 teams on our schedule that we're better than and 2 teams that at worst should be toss-ups. If it wasn't for the fact that Mullen has done so well in the games where he's had equal or better talent, I'd expect to go 9-1 at best over those 10 games, and for 8-2 to be likely. So I don't think losing to UT is something we can't recover from.

I said Auburn was a must win, and it was....

It's all about momentum and your teams confidence and we must win this game Saturday.
Win Saturday, and we could win 10 or 11 games this year...
If we lose to Tenn, we could lose to MTSU, Bama, LSU, A&M and da Bears...

Buy, if you mean a must win as an indicator of progress

As much as I love State, I think we gotta win this game if we are gonna argue we are truly on an upswing. If we lose this one, then aTm may be the only other team we face (with a great shot of beating) with a final winning record.

Logic fail. How does beating (or losing to) Tennessee make us more (or less) likely to beat A&M? It doesn't.

A 'must win' for what exactly? It is a must win if we want to make it to a BCS bowl. It is also a must win if we want to beat Tennessee, but that's about it.

6-6 is a successful season for MSU.

based on what?
Your lack of confidence in THIS team and THIS coaching staff? Anything less than 8 wins this year is a bust ......PERIOD! And don't give me the "this is Mississippi state here guys" routine. 17 that crap! And any of you people that think that is currently acceptable need to find another team to pull for. Seriously this sounds like some Bogeygolfer **** here. And don't tell me "I'm just keeping it REAL." Yeah you are keeping it REAL negative! This IS a real must win game for a couple of reasons

#1) Unlike the flacid fans, this team is sick and tired of mediocrity. And this win will be a sign we ARE trending upwards and we CAN in fact be successful (despite what some think). Our defense will show it's true nature in this game and shut guys like Bogeygolfer, Spanky and Bo Bounds up!

#2) *** doesn't lose to teams he is supposed to beat. Tyler Russell will struggle at times in this game and we will win this game on defense. I say this much like C34 does and the people i named can't honestly say this In Mullen I Trust!

This is EXACTLY the kind of mentality that has put the Bulldog program where it has been for so many years. ********. I refuse to think like my grampaw.

hell, your grampaw thought beating OM was a successful season even we lost all the other games.

2 part response:

1) Sell - It's more of a must win for Tennessee than it is for us this season. We're on track to being bowl eligible quicker than we've ever been since 99, and losing this game won't kill our chances from 8 or 9 wins. We could lose this game and still have an extremely successful season.

2) Buy - Now in the grand scheme of things, I will say it is a must win. This, in all honesty, is a game that will help us gain even more momentum not only for the season, but also the off season. If we're able to capitalize on the momentum and make this a special season instead of just a good one, then there's no telling where our program could be in the next few years.

Even though I can admit that this game isn't as important to win for the rest of our season, I'm leaning more towards buy simply because of the heights I wish to see our program reach. We could still get there regardless if we lose this game or not, but winning can only help get to that point sooner.

It's an opportunity that must be seized

Tennessee has a few exceptional players, but they are not as good top to bottom as the Bulldogs are. State is favored and is at home. To take the next step and gain respect, State must keep winning the games it is supposed to win. And make no mistake, this is a game the Dogs should win. Tennessee tends to garner respect based on past glory, so some folks across the nation don't expect the Vols to lose to the Dogs. Anyone who pays attention should realize that UT hasn't been a factor in the SEC for a while though and they damned sure arent a factor this year either. The Dogs need to stomp a hole in UT and make a statement. I will be very disappointed if State doesn't TCB on Saturday.

Sell. The "must win " scenario is up the interstate in Oxford...

..UT is not a must win. It's a critical win. There is a difference. The Rebel-Bears are currently in must win territory. Stating the obvious, that's a ****** place to be. With a 5-0 record, Mullen has created himself a little leeway.

Definition of "MUST" win is one in which if you dont, you literally lose the ability to acheive the most essential goal. Contrary to one dumbass' opinion, it's not so low as a 6-6 season. It's making it to the SECCG. A loss in this game wont put a dent in that as beating bama and lsu would still qualify us, thus removing the word 'must'. NOW it could impede a further goal of playing for the NC if we were to shock the world and beat bama and LSU and win the SECCG. But by definition, that would be beyond the most essential goal of getting to the game.

I think you are referring to the way losing will make us look or appear to the media and our fellow sec fans. True, It would be a pill to swallow. Might even convince everyone that we couldnt win vs Bama and LSU. But what most dont remember about 1980 was that in spite of beating Bama who was what most thought the most dominant team in football for the previous 3 years, we lost to Florida (who didnt win the sec that year). THAT year, we would have gone on to represent the west in Atlanta vs Georgia if it had been in existance.

just saying......tough losses, dont define you. We should beat UT almost as badly as we beat Auburn IF our secondary comes to play. But we can still recover from a UT loss. We've actually done something like this before.
