Buy/Sell. To this point, Mullen and Co. are recruiting successfully.

I would like to see what some of you think of his commits and efforts to date. What about his obvious plan of hitting Juco pretty strong. The obvious missing link is still a QB. There are others but QB is the biggest need still.

but maybe we already have one on the bench (or coming in with Newton, who hasn't committed). We obviously need more OL/DL, but it seems we are pretty weak on the current team in the defensive backfield (haven't checked the commit list lately, but perhaps we are already on our way to fixing this).

But its still young. I still think we pull in a few guys big time recruits (Wells, Newton, Carmon, etc...) But right now, we haven't made too much of a splash at all

he did a nice job of closing off the year last year, but he needs to prove to recruits that we don't completely suck. i know that huge juco d-lineman (name escapes me) has said that he's waiting to see how state does this year. his top two are ole miss and penn state, but if we win some games, i think he'll give us a shot

I like the videos of the JUCO guys we have committed. The wide receiver from MGCC is fast, runs good routes and has good hands. The RB from MGCC is a north south shifty runner that fights hard for extra yards and leads the nation in rushing for juco with 880 yards already. Rashod Henry is fast as hell and is putting up great stats. I would like us to get that 4 star lineman from MGCC, Cameron Newton, then the rest high school recruits. We don't need too many JUCO guys, but when a coach is trying to build a program, it is smart to get a few ones so he can redshirt the younger guys. Some of them turn out to be flops, but if you only get a few, and don't go overboard like JWS did sometimes, you will be fine.

He was at the game on Saturday and now says we are his leader again. His leader changes every other week so take that for what it's worth.

Evaluated after Cam Newton commits? "holy ****!"

first... I buy. Mullen's got some big names interested in what he's doing and I think that says alot at this point.

James Carmon is the name. he actually had some great things to say about MSU after his visit this weekend. he recognizes the chance to come in and play right away with some senior DL's going out. his room mate is Kelvin Bolden, our recent WR commit from mgccc, so that's bound to give us a slight advantage with him talkin in his ear all the time. i feel pretty good about the kid.

Things are going as well as can be expected this year given the in state talent level and the number of wins we came off of last year. I think Mullen is doing a good job of supplementing a very poor '06 (red shirt seniors) and a not great '07 class (true seniors) with JUCOs this year.

The real test will be if he can pull the big guys who are showing interest such as Newton, Cameron, Robinson, and Sanders. Of these we really need Newton and Robinson, but Robinson is probably a pipe dream.

it allowed the coaching staff to tell recruits at the game- "See, we are getting better, and when we sign you guys and get you on the field, that is going to put us over the hump to winning big games"

Mullen in his first year had a class much more highly ranked than Croom did in any of his classes. So that would be a big fat Croom-sized buy.

Y'all remember Croom's first recruiting season? He pretty much gave himself a pass and mailed it in. Playoff obligations and all. Maybe that's not fair since Mullen didn't have to hang around at his old job and coach for a championship. No wait, yes he did.

Carlos Thompson, Wells, Robert Johnson, Damien Robinson, Cam Newton, Carmon, Dorsey, V. Sanders, Nick Griffin, the Madison Central DTs, Chris Hughes, Jay Hughes, Bohanna, Nick Griffin.

Those are a lot of GOOD players still out there on the line. If he somehow pulls Newton, Thompson, Wells, R. Johnson, Carmon, Robinson - that would be ridiculous.

I am optimistic that we land Thompson, Newton, Wells, Carmon, V. Sanders - I am hopeful that we land R. Johnson, D. Robinson, Dorsey. The rest are just gravy. C. Hughes and Bohanna are solid LB prospects, and we need some LB. Griffin is someone I really think will develop into a player. J. Hughes is a solid DB recruit.

Carlos Thompson is my top target behind Newton. I don't know why but I just get the feeling that he is the next big nasty DE out of the Delta (see Groves, Quentin)

of that class committed to Croom. Mullen did a great job holding it together though and even added Bumphis who we wouldn't have gotten with Croom still here. Usually takes time for a HC to get the feel for recruiting at a new school in a new area so if he has a good class this year that certainly bodes well for the future.

Mullen closed on Bumphis and Tyler Russell. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, Brauchle, Hutchins and Berry are all here because of Mullen. I don't think the previous staff was even recruiting them.

Although, I give us the equivalent of the chances of a kerosene cat in hell of signing his big ***. I have found it extremely interesting that his big *** is absent from the last 2 recruiting updates put out by the Bama people (that I have access to through a co-worker). They are apparently hard after Stone and some unpronounceable named MFer from Maryland. Robinson has fallen off their board based on my observation.

Can you imagine if we somehow landed Cam Newton and D. Robinson and Dorsey and Thompson? I'd be in full wool infestation.

I'll talk about the guys that he has recruited- Berry has become an excellent return guy and a pretty good WR and then Bumphis is going to be a special player at MSU, in my opinion. Mullen did an excellent job of keeping the last class together. The only guy we missed out on was Patterson.
