We lost a close game last night. That's it.
That is the only thing keeping me from thinking this team is below average… we have 5 losses by I think a combined 8 or 9 runs. Be nice to not lose every close game but hopefully that means some luck will turn for us.

If that’s your definition of mediocrity, then we’ve been mediocre for 125 years. We have NEVER consistently competed for championships. Even in baseball, the sport we hang our hat on, we have a grand total of one SEC regular season championship since 1989. We aren’t any worse than we have been over a century, and actually some sports are better than their historical average. Football sucks, and that is coloring some of y’all’s views on every other sport. We are about to make our third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, which is something we’ve only done one other time in the history of our basketball program. I know this is the board for negativity, but my God, some of y’all are way over the top with it.
More like over the top emotionally.

There are quite a few here who are so over the top with the negativity without adding much of anything at all of worth to the board that it begins to threaten the positive experience here for me.

So yeah, I'm going to say so, even though I'd rather drink my beer and watch a game than ***** post at idiots on here.

Old cranks, I’ll leave that alone.

I define mediocrity as not competing for “actual” championships. As in making deep runs in the SEC tournaments and NCAA tournaments. Winning the league. Not being in the bottom half of our league. And football is complete dumpster fire. And I was referring mens/women’s basketball baseball and football dead last.

Based on what you want, you really should find another school to root for.

I keep seeing these kind of statements from the same ole cranks on this board.

Define mediocre????

Both basketball teams are going to the NCAA tournament.

Baseball was a near host ast year and a Top 25 team. On the edge of Top 25 this year.

Softball is killing it and is a perennial NCAA tournament team.

Both golf teams are very good. Probably tourney teams.

Soccer won the SEC.

Etc etc etc...

What's actually mediocre to well below mediocre is your ability to see what actually is. You are apparently ruled by emotion, not logic.
What is our ranking in the sec now compared to what it was 5-10 years ago in baseball. What is our ranking sec in basketball. I don't even have to asked about football. There is plenty of logic there. We aren't anywhere close to our competition and the league we play in. The rest of the league has surpassed us in most all of our sports in which we used to be a lot better in and compete at the top. Now we are happy being mid tier team to lower tier team in sports we used to be at the top in.

It's almost like maybe the league expanded and actually started caring about the sport we used to hang our hat on.

I mean, I could be wrong. Let me take a look at who won the last 5 National Championships. Wow, that looks like 5 different SEC teams in a row.

And there's another different one who got 2nd last year.

And another different one who got 2nd the last time an SEC team didn't win it all. Actually it seems 6 of the last 7 national runners up now all play in the SEC.

And golly, look at that, the league just added two new programs who seem to be decent and, let me check, have won 8 national championships in baseball between them.

I know it's all MSU's fault that we can't keep up with the mediocrity of SEC baseball, but at least we try.

The 17 are you talking about? Five years ago in basketball we had Howland taking underachieving talented teams to the NIT. Five years before that we were one of the worst programs in the SEC. In football our coach (who a bunch of y’all didn’t like even though we went 9-4 in his last season) 17ing died and Keenum 17’d up the new hire.

And there is quite a few here that want to control what anyone has to say that is different opinion of themselves. Call it negativity. Call it whatever it is! It is the truth.

Please tell me which sport in the last 3 years (mens/womens basketbal, baseball, football) has been in the top half of the conference. Please tell me which sport did more than won “one” game in the ncaa tournament. Tell me how many times baseball has hosted regional or gone to Omaha. And football didn’t even win one conference game

if you are really pleased with those results then you are part of the problem.

first you call me names then you tell me to root for another school. I let they first go by. But don’t “EVER” tell me to leave MSU!! No keyboard punk going to tell me what to say, how to say and where to say something. Maybe you are the problem.

Ah, the old fan is part of the problem argument. Before I call you a ******* idiot for buying into that nonsense, how is some random fan’s indifference part of the problem?

I'm not interested in controlling you or debating you. You typed something stupid and wrong and now you want to type your way out of it. I simply pointed it out as stupid.

I'm done on the subject.

I seem to recall some of us being unhappy when last season was over. I am so surprised to see people upset now that we let him back in so quickly.
