and mandated the move down to D3. Before going D3, he was doing a very solid choice. And to reiterate, moving down was not his idea or intent. D3 schools can't offer scholarships and tend to put very little money into athletics in general. They are primarily academic institutions. MC is a good example of this. There just isn't money to go out and hire some great coach at that level, unless a disgraced big time coach like Mike Dubose just falls in your lap. And if you're happy with what an assistant is bringing to the table, I have no problem promoting a guy. Think about it this way in an extrapolated MState scenario: We lose Mullen to one of the big boys in 5 years. Hevesy is running game coordinator. Hudspeth is passing game coordinator. The offense, both running and passing, has been very effective during their tenure as tri-OCs. Both have recruited well over that span and both have shown the ability to develop players at their respective positions. We've also been to several solid bowls in that time span. We do a national search, but conclude that either Hevesy or Hudspeth is the best fit for our program and hire one of them as HC. Would you be upset in hiring one of them? Or would you be pissed that we "hired an assistant of the previous coach?" Personally, I'd have no problem in that scenario.
I don't know enough about the scheduling scenarios to speak about that, but it's not something I'd be overly worried about. Like I said, the 2 things you're concerned about have both happened <span style="text-decoration: underline;">after</span> the current president there cut his nuts off by moving down. I'd be happy to bring one of our own back home.
