Olympic sports yes. Sam Fran market okI would imagine academically they would be far and away a "yes" but as we all know the networks run conference realignment, so if FOX doesn't want them, then they won't be in.
Posted in the other thread. 30M first year with an increase of 1M each year through this new tv deal. Then in the next contract they will be full members.it's about money
right now, ND and FSU push the needle. Not sure how UW and Oregon move the needle and curious what their buy in payout will be
damn, that is cheap!Posted in the other thread. 30M first year with an increase of 1M each year through this new tv deal. Then in the next contract they will be full members.
They can also borrow against future earnings up to 40M iirc.
contentWhy are we raiding future MWC members? We can do much better if we want to further expand, UNC, UVA, FSU, and Clemson are still out there. Stanford and Cal would bring no value to the conference, if you have ever lived in the Bay Area you would understand how little the general populous, and even their own alumni, care about college football. Both those schools' faculties and administrations are bigger pains in the *** than Northwestern. Stanford tries to take over and run any organization, including sports, in which it is a member. Ask the people at USC about Stanford, they are very happy to be rid of them.
Unless FSU can find a way to break the ACC's GOR ,Notre Dame will honor their agreement with the ACC and play ACC programs in football for the amount of games that agreement has them playing every year and that would keep the B1G out of picture. No unless ND joins in the same grouping.
I’ve said I think the next two spots are for ACC schools up to 20.Unless FSU can find a way to break the ACC's GOR ,Notre Dame will honor their agreement with the ACC and play ACC programs in football for the amount of games that agreement has them playing every year and that would keep the B1G out of picture.
Also if their Under Armor deal is as big as rumored( &10 mil a year) that will help keep them independent in football while other programs have a home in the ACC.
The problem is that no one watches their football games. The media partners don’t value them and won’t pay for them, and the existing schools won’t want to subsidize them. With the 4 best programs in the West, I would bet our media partners feel that market is locked down with no further need for expansion. It seems very possible when you consider that a good 10 million people in and around the SF bay area are being left up for grabs. In addition, they are two of the strongest colleges academically in the world.
The West is already locked up . . .The BIG/SEC expansions will continue.... lock up the west coast w the CA schools (20) and then poach the ACC when the time is right ND, UNC, UVA, FSU (24)
I am hoping that all that is happening is that the Big Ten is making it clear to Cal and Stanford that they can join only by taking a very reduced amount -- much less even than what Washington and Oregon are getting. The idea of two Bay Area schools being left out in the cold is startling .It seems very possible when you consider that a good 10 million people in and around the SF bay area are being left up for grabs. In addition, they are two of the strongest colleges academically in the world.
Not necessarily -- but if the Big Ten takes only one, it either has an odd number of schools or it has to find someone else to join. Beside, Cal and Stanford have a history of sports rivalry going back more than a century. There are rumors that Stanford is trying to join the Big Twelve in conjunction with San Diego State, not Cal, but this might just be a bargaining tactic. Are they a package deal?
Cal probably doesn't get great ratings but Stanford in good years must get decent ratings. The problem is that no one watches their football games. According to something I saw posted yesterday, Stanford and Cal had the lowest TV ratings of all of the PAC12 teams. It seems very possible when you consider that a good 10 million people in and around the SF bay area are being left up for grabs. I was listening to a Mandel/Feldman pod and he said talking to people in the industry Oregon and Washington both got better ratings than anyone in the B12.Cal probably doesn't get great ratings but Stanford in good years must get decent ratings.
I thought that before but I wouldn’t take it as an absolute anymore with the FSU PE news. I’d say the door is cracked open a bit now as opposed to being bolted shut. Can’t say for sure FSU can get out but I won’t write off the possibility anymore.BTW, the Big Ten can dream of ACC schools -- but nothing is going to happen as long as the GOR is in place.
This link says that the Arizona schools and Oregon State have lower average viewership than Cal and Stanford. There is hardly any difference between Cal and Stanford.According to something I saw posted yesterday, Stanford and Cal had the lowest TV ratings of all of the PAC12 teams.
Why would anyone care about academics in an athletic conference ?I would imagine academically they would be far and away a "yes" but as we all know the networks run conference realignment, so if FOX doesn't want them, then they won't be in.
At best, FSU will have to pay a lot to get out -- that's why they're trying to use private equity money. But the ACC has to realize that if it lets FSU out, everyone else will do the same thing. There is nothing unique about FSU's capacity to raise money; if they can do it, so can everyone else.I thought that before but I wouldn’t take it as an absolute anymore with the FSU PE news. It is somewhat unique because not everyone is going to have the same opportunity for a landing spot as FSU. Maybe Clemson and UNC and that’s it.At best, FSU will have to pay a lot to get out -- that's why they're trying to use private equity money. Yes, but wouldn't you agree that losing Clemson and UNC in addition to FSU would basically kill the ACC?It is somewhat unique because not everyone is going to have the same opportunity for a landing spot as FSU. Maybe Clemson and UNC and that’s it.
Plus not everyone will want to take out that kind of loan or make that kind of deal.
They would be just like the B12 and so far no news of anyone else going the outside the box route of FSU.Yes, but wouldn't you agree that losing Clemson and UNC in addition to FSU would basically kill the ACC?
Oh my, how the academic elite have fallen, Stanford in the same conference as Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, LMAO! I can't see it happening having once lived in that area and dealt professionally with some of their faculty and alumni, most of them would rather kill the program than be associated with people in fly over country. They hold their noses when they have to play San Jose State, let alone Kansas State. Not necessarily -- but if the Big Ten takes only one, it either has an odd number of schools or it has to find someone else to join. The ACC has to worry that if FSU gets out, then the other two will head for the door. UNC and Clemson have just as much access to money as FSU does -- in UNC's case, probably more. They would be just like the B12 and so far no news of anyone else going the outside the box route of FSU.

A lot still in the worksThey would be just like the B12 and so far no news of anyone else going the outside the box route of FSU.
