If that is the play, the B1G may want to just pick them up to lock out others from the Bay Area market for the future.
If they aren’t worth anywhere near a B1G share now, they won’t be worth it later, and this play is to only temporarily forego their shares with the ACC.

What exactly does “without media payouts” mean?

They are going to receive zero media money from the ACC while providing all their content to the ACC partners?

How exactly are they finding their athletic departments?
Football gameday revenue?
I know it’s been reported as such but I find it very hard to believe.

Are they planning on taking huge payouts from the general school funding?

You've identified the problem. Stanford has a big enough endowment that it could fund its athletic department without using current revenues. Cal can't.

SMU willing to take no media rights for 7 years. Kudos on their determination to try anything to get in to an A4/5 conference. Sounds like how to distribute the money from those 3 taking no or partial shares is the hang up. Would it be based on performance or eyeballs/status?

Surprised the ACC doesn't grab Tulane while they're at it. In other news, we get to laugh at UConn for being yet again the bridesmaid in the game of conference realignment musical chairs.

Seems like if the ACC ends up adding schools the only money saved by the networks will be on WSU and Oregon State. The rest will still be getting in the vicinity of 30M (the amount they passed on to give the PAC after taking on the B12) whether it goes to them or others in their conferences.
