Dude is lights out. He pitched like a beast today.I know he provides great bullpen relief, but damn we could use him as a starter right now. Sub 1.00 ERA through 30 innings of work. We could use him in the rotation.

amount of runs we give up. Closers need to be lights out. They need to kill momentum and shut down the opponent for the rest of the game. Sure, its nice to have a guy that can stretch 5-7 innings while giving up very few hits/runs, but if you cant close the game out, you just wasted your time (that was a big problem last year). <div>
</div><div>*Edit* plus starters are "set" in the rotation (for the most part). Our relief guys can be much more flexible and can provide that confidence whenever we need them (Reed, Norris, Pollorena) even if it has to be early in a game. </div>

he got off to a really good start in the bullpen last year, and started pitching worse when Cohen used him as a starter. He is needed in the bullpen.

What really sucks is that he was left watching while the meltdown occurred Friday night in a prime opportunity for a win. I am confident he could have closed that game out Friday. He may not have gone as long as he did today if he had thrown Friday, but it was senseless to let him sit and watch that crap take place without making a move in the all important first game.

I like him in the bullpen. However, I never understood people's issue with him. Many on this board were wanting Cohen to cut him after his freshman year. He pitched well last year and has taken it to another level this year. He really helps us.

He did have an ERA of around seven or worse at that time. I think the coaches making him drop down, even though he doesn't do it as much now, was a great move for Caleb. You have to give the coaches a lot of credit for the job that they have done with him. It's too bad that we couldn't redshirt him.

The coaches have done a great job with him. As a freshman he got hit pretty good, but I always liked his potential. A lot of freshman need to time to adjust, especially when your pitching schedule is sporadic or you are being used sparingly. I always felt like cutting him after his freshman year would have been a mistake. I'm hoping some others (namely Renfroe) can follow a similar path. Renfroe has the talent, but needs to learn how to pitch and get his pitches under control.

What would you do? Would you pitch Stratton, Routt, Norris as SEC starters? Do we have anybody coming in for next year who could possible be an SEC starter?

he is the most likely recruit to be a weekend starter. I haven't heard much about Lindgren outside of this site, but he sounds like he could start his sophomore year.

But yes, I would go with Stratton, Routt, and Norris on the weekend and then Devin Jones midweek.

As far as next year's rotation- it's just going to depend on whether or not Routt and Jones come back or go pro. Stratton will be back, and will have a spot. I think Lindgren could get a spot IF Routt leaves, but Routt will have a spot if he returns. The third spot is going to be up for grabs- Fitts, Lindgren, Norris, Jones should he come back, and Evan Mitchell will all compete for it.

Also, Brandon Woodruff is an immediate impact type of pitcher as well- I think he is more of a closer, though.

And I didn't forget Kendall Graveman- I just think he is more of a middle relief type guy.

I agree with you on Graveman. If Routt and Jones come back I could see him not even starting next year. I saw Woodruff going in the third round in a mock draft, but I have no idea how credible that draft is. If he actually goes that high I would be very surprised if he makes it to campus.

He is really the only guy that we have signed that I would be worried about us losing to MLB right now. The word on the street is if he is drafted in the top 10 rounds, he will sign with MLB. He has had a lot of scouts watching him lately. The only others that I am mildly concerned about losing are Fitts and Lindgren.

The MLB draft can get a little fuzzy after the first round, moreso than any other draft in pro sports. But as of now, I am cautiously optomistic that we can get all of our guys in. Of course, ask me in June and I may feel differently.
