It would be nice, but, I read that Calhoun at 73 owns 2 houses in Connecticut. He will certainly mentor his protégé, but, coming to NJ to make a few bucks is a tough sell. I think his role will be to advise with asst. Coaches and help Pikiell understand what he needs to do to run a big time program.

I can see Calhoun helping Coach P where he can, but doubt he'd come here in any official capacity. Uconn is still his baby. He sits behind Ollie every home game, and it's fairly well known around these parts that he still plays an active role in running that program.

According to what I read from the Press conference, that's pretty much it. Calhoun will be there, but not in an official capacity.

Calhoun is a paid employee at UConn, so he won't be going to Rutgers in any official capacity. I think his salary is $300k/yr.

By the way, Steve Pikiell is a great guy who will build Rutgers basketball the right way. I don't think he will take short cuts and he will expect his team to play hard and tough. I just hope everyone has the patience for Pikiell to build the basketball program at Rutgers as the job is a total rebuild of the program from A to Z. I have always believed that Rutgers basketball is a sleeping giant and there is no reason Rutgers can't be a top 25 basketball program as top recruits surround Rutgers.

Calhoun isn't interested in a full time position that probably would require moving to NJ .

Calhoun can probably host an off season coaches clinic in CT where he mentors and tutors the coaches. Hosting this for a 5 day period each spring can be helpful to the coaches as they prepare for the following year.

Probably best for all concerned that this remain an informal mentor mentee relationship. Calhoun could become a distraction if too prominent.
