You can't publicly side with someone who's keeping UK from getting a major player and not have negative feedback.

He preaches "players first" ....but only if it's HIS players.

Dickie V and the rest will now criticize us for not giving a Cal a standing ovation in Rupp this winter. Or God forbid we actually boo a man that went to a rival school who helped the SEC stand their ground.

Cal: I am fine with them getting Mitchell or anyone else so long as every player gets the same opportunity now to transfer if they feel they are being recruited over or promises were broken.

UK fans and Matt Jones: Cal hates us and doesn't want us to get Mitchell!!!
So that means the multiple conference transfers, pros, etc shouldn’t be on Cals team right?

Since when is Cal ok with players leaving a program overnight that were recruited over? HA!

Let me fix it...

Cal: I know players will NEVER have the ability to leave last minute for the mere reason of being recruited over, so this is my way to show the SEC to stand strong.

I mean, pretty much always. We literally took Oscar from WVU mid season. I'm sure Cal would habe loved for him to play sooner. He's never been one to stand in the way of a transfer, always signing off on them.

Some of you are obviously still obsessed with Cal.

Cal the last few years did more damage to Ky than any other coach dragging millions of dollars with him.
This. Cal lovers, or those incapable of seeing the bigger picture, love to claim that Pope sucks and that he's had enough time to make the program elite again. What they don't know is the trail of destruction Cal left at UK, and the damage he was doing to the program for YEARS before leaving.

Don't fall for the propaganda of KSR.

Here is Cal's words.

Ksr is driving clicks in a slow time, which is their job. We all know cal spews loads of bs, but he's generally right on the current insanity of cbb.

I posted basically this same take days ago. We took a longshot risk, undoubtedly spent money, and all we got for it was undoubtedly disrupting whatever team chemistry was developed up till then.

I cannot emphasize enough that it was way past time for Cal to go.

With that being said, what he did in his final years has nothing to do with the failures Pope has brought. Cal was still reeling in #1 recruiting classes, just recently had a national player of the year, had us preseason top 5-10 every single year (meaning there was expectations), #1 televised along with ratings school in the country.

What of any of these has Pope mirrored? The only thing that can be compared between the two is the lack of winning on the court. If not for the tension with the boosters and upper management within the university, we were better off with Cal than the trash we have now.

What damage did he do?

In 2 of his last 4 years here we were a 2 seed and a 3 seed. Oh, the horrors!

But if you mean Cal leaving and opening the door for Pope to be here then I agree, that’s real damage!!

But I don’t think Cal had anything to do with Pope getting hired. He could have prevented it by staying though.

Your argument doesn't hold water. You claim to know that it was high time for Cal to go (you didn't say fired), but you don't see that Cal did real damage to UK's reputation and what the program is about? If winning on the court is tied directly to winning on the recruiting trail, then what is there to compare?

He wasn’t fired, he left. Maybe or maybe not that he tried to come back. There’s two sides to every story but the official statement is that he left for Arkansas.

What is this basketball program dealing with today that is from what Cal did?

Yes, and clearly you are jealous. We observed Cal for 13 years. His psychology is predictable and always has a self-serving agenda.

So who is getting hurt here in this situation since Cal decided to weigh in?

A we have an open roster spot and money to pay him. The worst thing is Mcbride and Osumane go from 25 mins a game to 15? OR a return to Mizzou where a kid is getting cut from the roster to make room for him?

Again who's really coming out worse?

Well, if you're brought in with expectations you're going to be playing so many minutes and who you will be sharing minutes with, then last minute the teams adds a guy who will alter all of that, you don't think you might want to reconsider knowing all the facts?

How is that a bad thing?

Cal has no room to talk when it comes to playing guys who waited their turn. He always played star freshman over them and that’s why the ones with future promise always transferred out. Bryce Hopkins being a prime example. He came in his freshman year and won us a game, Cal said he forced him to play him after that and he never checked in a game again.

They all knew where they stood though. I don't think Cak ever made promises to players and then broke them.

You always knew Cal was going to bring in and play the highest ranked players he could get. That is Cal.

Hopkins new he was coming in behind others.

However, going to a program thinking you're getting X,Y,Z and then that changes before the season even starts, shouldn't said player get the same benefit of transferring out as they new player transferring in? Is that not fair?

You're missing the point. Cal when sticking his nose into business that didn't concern him mad it clear only one situation was gonna hurt kids but completely left out the fact a return meant a kid was getting cut from their team. What about his expectation? He thought he had a spot on a team and now doesn't? Which is worse? A smaller reduction in minutes for a potential final 4 team? OR completely being cut? At one time I was cool with Cal coming back to get his flowers after the Arkansas experiment was over. But now? I don't care if he ever steps foot in this state again.

I think he was probably honest to some degree but the guys who deserved PT always were placed below top 10 ranked guys no matter how bad they played to keep his recruiting up. So I take what he says about taking spots from HS players and stuff with a huge grain of salt. He is hypocritical because it’s players first, except when it messes with his recruiting strategy.

Who is getting cut?

He isn't allowed to answer questions asked in an interview?
