Lets say that 4th quarter blunder on Sat nite actually cost us the ball game. Would that have justiied putting *** on the hot seat? Would you have been calling for his head?

I would have understood people calling for his head and saturday night - I probably would have said don't even board the plan. After a few days, I would have said let the season play out. Although to me, it would be difficult to recover from that type of loss.

Thank goodness this is a hypothesis contrary to fact. **But at least Day wouldn't have been suspended.

Yes, for me. That has been my biggest beef with Mullen his entire tenure.......it's almost as if he has an aura of arrogant ignorance, if that makes sense. Auburn last season was a hard-hitting game for me. No, we were not favored, similar to LSU this year. But we simply had every opportunity to win that game and we simply did not do it. Last year was a perfect example of this:

This year we took that swing game and now have an opportunity for an upper level type of season.....8-4 and beyond. Last year we have to scratch and claw to 6-6.

Yeah I was hot under the collar right after the game too...

I was looking for somebody to PAY for all the unnecessary pain and suffering I had to endure at the end of that game. I slowly calmed down and was able to enjoy the win. But had the worst happened, I think I too would have had the same attitude of don't bother boarding the plane. A calmer head would have prevailed though and the correct response would be zero tolerance for a repeat performance in the future.

I must however give Coach Dan Mullen full credit for building the program to the point of even having the ability to compete like that and for having the team ready to play. It is safe to say we would not even be in a position to get mad about nearly blowing a win in DV without Dan Mullen and he deserves that accolade and then some. I do trust it has finally sunk in that very few leads are safe in the SEC and is now and even BETTER game manager.

Exactly how I feel

Imo that would have set the season into a tail spin

My brain is treating that scenario about the same way that it treats the possibility of getting cancer. There's just a wall up that won't even allow me to think about it

I don't even want to think about if we had managed to lose that game at the end. There would have been a lot of pissed off Bulldogs and I would have been one of them. I wouldn't be calling for his head, yet. But he'd definitely be feeling a lot of heat.

I have a hard time criticizing any of the decisions he made in that game. That snap over the head just happened; they had no chance without it.

Mullen made a huge mistake when he took the starting OL & Josh Robinson out of the game when we were inside the 20 and about to go up 41-10. He tried to coast through the last 6 minutes of the game and you just can't do that against a team like LSU. I think he's learned his lesson and I'm just glad he learned it in a win and not a loss.

If one of those guys had been injured during that time, Mullen also would have been criticized. Having said that, since it was LSU, it definitely would have been fine in my book to leave them in. However, the game was or should have been over and one of the jobs of your second teamers is normally to finish out such games.

We're talking about 2-3 additional plays for the starters. Mullen took them out when we got inside the 20 on that drive. And it was LSU players going down with injuries on most every play that drive. The risk of injury for any of our players would have been almost nothing. It was a huge mistake. Just glad it didn't bite him in the ***.

It didn't bite him this time but it will. We get up by two touchdowns and go vanilla late. I'm a big Mullen fan but it and special teams drive me crazy and are never addressed

You can't coach a game in fear of losing players to injury. If we're up by 25-30 points with five minutes left, then yes, take them out. But we were about to kill the game off, score a TD to go up 41-16 with 4 minutes remaining. Score that touchdown and then take your starters out. An 18 point lead is really not that much in an SEC game on the road, especially at Death Valley. LSU got 3 possessions in the final 4 minutes without recovering an onside kick. Can you imagine if they had recovered the second onside kick? We might very well have lost that game.

I'll bet you nobody will say a word about it if it happens this season anyway. Or if someone does they will be slapped down immediately.

I agree... What other coach would have done that. Hell Miles would have tried to score 60+ on us if he had the chance..

Mullen is starting to get a reputation that he does not finish games. We had the same issue a few years ago in Oxford when we were up 31-3 and then quit playing and came out with only a 31-23 win. Didn't come down to the last play like this past Saturday but games that should be put away Dan either doesn't have the killer instinct or is so arrogant he thinks the other team has no chance to come back and quits coaching. If we had won the LSU game more like 41-23 like we would have if we hadn't subbed out everyone we would have come up higher in the polls this week. This isn't old school football anymore, it doesn't take long for offenses to score these days with all the high powered offenses so you have to get to the VERY end before games are truly over when the other team has as much talent as LSU does. Especially when you add in the fact how easy it is to burn our secondary deep.

I dunno about that special teams part. I think this might've been a complaint a few weeks ago, but the recent results on the field say Dan may have turned the corner.
Last year we were complaining that kickoffs weren't getting to the endzone. Now, they're consistently there, and if they don't make it, it was probably intentional.
Earlier this year none of us were impressed with our punt returners. Enter true freshman Jamoral Graham, who has to date made one (1!) mental mistake in fair-catching a punt at the 5.
Field goals....well, field goals might still be a problem, but if Sobiesk can keep his streak going that will have been addressed as well.
