and they are retreating to their safety zone in Arkansas. That and Gus never struck me as a guy that wants to be the center of attention. I think he's content with being in a lower key job and collecting his 800k a year under a less psychotic microscope.

She is A Coach's Wife, and everybody loves her and loves to hear her stories - even if they're borderline inappropriate for the forum she's telling them in. She walked off that stage thinking that the crowd was spellbound.

There's no logical reason for Malzahn to take a pay cut and head to Ark State. If he was in the job hunt a couple weeks ago and Ole Miss picked Freeze over Malzahn then they are idiots. My guess is that Malzahn floated his name out as a candidate for openings, may have even told Chiz he was looking. Then this wife video thing just pops up and ruins his chances. Hard to go back to Auburn with your tail between your legs so he jumped on somehting safe somewhere familiar.

There's no place like home. Maybe he makes "enough" money. A lot of people could be satisfied with what ASU is paying.
I took a career downgrade to move home. Can't say I don't look back on that decision. But I'm happy where I am. I could understand if Gus did that.

Said the reason Gus didn't take the Vandy job was a contract issue. Vandy told him he had to sign a waiver that IF Auburn gets hit with Ncaa sanctions we would lose his 3 million dollar job. Gus decided not to sign, just saying.

He coached in Arkansas high schools for 15 years before being hired by Nutt. If he had dreams of being a high profile college coach, surely he could've worked his way into college sooner than that. I just don't think he's a guy that's willing to bounce around all over the country in pursuit of being the highest paid coach. He's spent most of his life within about a 3-4 hour radius of his hometown... I could easily see him taking a "paycut" to get back home. Once you're making the kind of cash he is, a $500k paycut isn't really going to be a life changer.
Along the conspiracy lines - all reports are that he's a good Christian man. I could see him not wanting to be involved with the BS going on at Auburn. Maybe he's come to the realization that SEC recruiting is dirty & he doesn't want to be a part of it. But as for the NCAA coming down on AU --- not happening.

He is an Arkansan. Arkansans are very proud of their state...like Texans. He probably views it as an opportunity to better himself and his state. He has spent most of his life there and has lots of family there from what I hear. Also, I would imagine he wants the Arkansas job at some point. Again Arkansans are a proud bunch and they see him as a traitor at Auburn pulling Arkansas recruits and winning against Arkansas. Yes, many of the Razorback fans view him that way. Now this move gets him back home and out of direct competition with UPig. Therefore he can become their native son again and be in a favorable position to take over UPig when Petrino splits.
Also if you believe Memphis radio, Saint Freeze consulted with Malzahn and told him how prepared that team is to win in the SunBelt. So if he wins that conference, they will be singing his praises in Arkansas. Hell, some folks there wanted him to get the UPig job after Nutt left. They will be whipped up into mass hysteria to name him coach if he wins at stAte.

He needs his first head coaching job to be one at which he can have success immediately.

Personally I think he should have gone to USM if the position was offered, but it may not have been. But, he was a high school coach 6 years ago, right? So he's going back to a place that he knows, dealing with high school coaches he knows, going to a program that has had success in the Sun Belt.
I think it's a good fit for him and he can use it to get a better job in the future if he does well there now.
