Frank, read my other posts on here. To me, Cal had already proven himself successful. Miller has done a better job of coming up short with loaded teams.
It's just my opinion though. I do agree he would be an excellent choice, never denied that.

I would love Brad Stevens as our next coach after Calipari and I see a lot of people here would, too. But I doubt the guy ever returns to college basketball. He's 40 years old, took Butler to the title game twice and now is coaching arguably the best roster in the Eastern conference for a franchise that doesn't make impulsive decisions. Since Danny Ainge took over they have been patient and methodical in their decision making. I don't see Stevens leaving Boston anytime soon. And on the off chance that things get stale like they did with Doc Rivers, another NBA franchise would absolutely hire him.
Daddy is the AD at Duke.......... you know those connections would be good for us...... thats the thing that can turn a good coach into a great coach by way of favoritism

Billy Donovan will be our next coach and I'll be happy about it. By the time that day comes, Donovan will have realized how irrelevant he's become in the NBA and Rick Pitino won't be around to convince not to take the job.
Next summer is big. If they lose both Westbrook and George, Billy is < 1 year away from looking for another job.
I'd turn my UK fan card in if Greg Marshall was ever hired here. He don't have the temperment for the job plus his wife is bat shi* crazy! He reminds me a lot of Crean.
Agreed. I think he's a good coach, but I don't think he'd handle the pressure cooker that is UK basketball. The way he acted during/after our two games really turned me off of him. Plus, the state of KY has too much bourbon for his crazy wife to handle.
I agree! Cal had taken Memphis to the championship game and UMass to the Final 4. He was a proven coach. I don't care if a coach is hired here who hasn't yet won a title, but I think having a Final 4 on his resume is important. I'm skeptical of anyone else who hasn't yet taken a team to a Final 4.
Billy Donavon is who I want to be the next coach. Imagine the level he would be on here compared to Florida. He won 2 titles at a football\baseball school.
You NEVER ask Billy Donovan again. NEVER...how many times will he be given an opportunity to be the UK coach. Twice so far I know of....ask him again and he becomes bigger than the program. You do not say no to UK more than once. Twice if you're near great maybe..

Sean Miller is the obvious choice at the moment, and may be an even more clear cut successor by the time Cal leaves.

If Archie succeeds at IU, he will have then made it a position not worth leaving.

Uh..you have NEVER seen me state I ever wanted Donovan. Quit stating something like it's fact. What you are doing is making up your own narrative to somehow make yourself more important or informed. He has always been Eddie Munster to me....he caught lightening in a bottle.

I wasnt saying you wanted him as coach.... I'm saying if he was picked... you'd love him and cheer him on because he'll be the UK coach who already has 2 titles under his belt along with winning NBA experience.

After that, based on what's out there right now, I'd rather roll the dice with Frank Martin than the Millers. Huge heart and slightly overachieving vs big recruiting and slightly underachieving. I'd take Cuonzo after that. Basically Martins over Millers.

I'd take Frank Martin in a heartbeat! The guy can flat out coach and his players will run through a brick wall for him. That run South Carolina went on last year was pretty amazing, and he had Kansas State on the verge of the Final Four in 2010. They were a 2 seed and lost to Butler in the Elite 8.

Someone with NO HEAD COACHING EXPERIENCE will not be head coach at UK. Maybe if he leaves and coaches a mid major to a few deep tournament runs or something, proves he can coach and build his own team, manage a staff.

How did he act, what did he do specifically? He's a great coach and would be a great coach here. KSR bad mouthed Cal too, yall would just have to get over their feud with his wife.
While all of us would not oppose Billy being a HC in the future we do need to remember that he recruited one great group of players to go with an experienced group. And back then kids didn't go pro after one year that often so they came back and did something not many schools can do, win back to back NCs. So you then need to look at what he did from then to when he left for the pros.

I would like to see him as Cal's replacement but I have to agree with you. He made UK look like a middle school girl chasing her crush. He had his chance, that ship has sailed.
If all things righted themselves and there is karma, Dwayne Casey would be given the chance as coach. Unless being thrown under the bus by UK has still left a bad taste in his mouth. Very good and successful head coach right now.
IMHO, even if Donovan were out of a job he would turn down a UK offer solely for his loyalty to Pitino. I truly believe Pitino hates UK at this point because of "how he's been treated" and all that winy BS since taking the UL job. He's wined about it publicly and demonstrated it with a middle finger. Pitino would look at Donovan going to UK as an act of betrayal and Donovan won't do that.
Personally, when Cal does decide to leave, I hope to god the stars align and Brad Stevens just happens to be on the job market that same year.

And yeah brad Stevens would be awesome, but no way he is leaving the NBA anytime soon imo. He's got the celtics rockin and they still have draft picks etc etc . No way he leaves Boston for UK (or Duke ... IU ( ) etc

It doesn't matter how many great players you recruit, you still have to coach them. If your coach starts getting the shakes when the game is on the line the players are going to follow suit. You hire Miller and you are getting another Bill Self. Is that what you people want ? Not me !!!
